if you created a pve monk, then you'd be looking at basic heals at orison, heal breeze (doesn't really give you alot of options there)

as you progress, you will find more options...

important thing for monking is knowing how to manage your energy efficiently... there are several ways, usually using your second prof...

/N can use OoB
/Me has lots of options,... inspired hex, MoR,
/E (my favourite) use glyph of less energy, or use glyph of renewal with DS
/R can try draw condition and Meladu's resilience
/W can try bonetti's defence

Depending on whether you have Factions, Prophecies or both will determine what skills you can or should bring.

Energy Management - do not bother with Necromancer, Warriors, Rangers, Assassins or Ritualists. Choose either Mesmer or Elementalist.

If you want to go healing, max out Divine Favor and Healing Prayers. You'll be able to heal a lot with both maxed out.

There are plenty of builds for Monks, take a look at each one and see if you like them. If not, mix and match skills to suite your needs.

Have fun.
