When minipets first came out, I bought a miniature Shiro for 55k. I promptly resold it for 100k+91 ectos.

Selling the most useless things to me to the desparate. I was able to sell goods (materials, collector stuff, weapons, armor, etc.) for a lot of money. More than the merchants are willing to buy for.
I find it very rewarding to go help friends to quests, grab everything I can, sell what is useless to all (ordinary weapons, etc.) and keep what collecters want. Then go to areas what the collectors want (in town) and wait for people to ask for those items. Sell to them and make nice money. While I don't make gobs of money (I'm not trying to get rich quick), I do make some nice coin.

i find it really hard to set a price on my finds. i got a gold mesmer staff 11^22 damage +28 health + 7 armour and 13% redution on something, cant remember. I was selling it at 7k, and this mesmer comes up to me and offers 400g, says its not worth 7k at all. She must think i am a noob for either selling it for too high or too low. I know i am a noob when it comes to pricing things. this is my main hinderence to the sell high thing, i just dont know how high to go.

That item is merchant food in my opinion.
I started playing GW when it first came out "about 12-13 months ago" I was late on the HoD sword nerf, southern shiverpeak chests, prot bond and prot spirit UW solo, and started soloing griffons about 1 month before the queen update.
My bigest advice would be: Salvage almost everything and learn which items give the most wood/iron/steel/dust ext, buy a 29 health upgrade, 20/19 sundering, 19% enchanting mods and so on, and don't hesitate to whisper a extremely low price on a wts item. I for one sell good weapons for small amounts of gold just to clear up my inventory.
Doing the fallowing for my GW duration has given me two sets of FoW armor, perfect weapon sets for 5/8 of my toons and around 800k in storage.
Hope that helps.

ow nice..
i farm greens mostly..
just waiting looking at the screen for about 5 hours waiting for the "farming adrenaline" to pump on my veins..
most of the time im too lazy to farm but when i get hooked to farming i would never stop until i get the amount i want..
most of the time i farm 100k+ in a day (8-10 hours of farming non-stop)
i guess farming non-stop is suited for me..

I don't make massive amounts of money, although farming trolls allows me to make 10k if I did around 10 runs, thats assuming I get some purples / golds every run.

Making money can be insanely easy, or incredibly difficult. It depends on your setup.
1 - You're a loner, you don't play often, you don't know many people and you just want to make enough money to buy simple things, or possibly try out the new uniques or anything interesting you come across. You're not very interested in 15k armor, let alone Fissure.
If that's you, you're in luck. This game will make money enough just from killing stuff in open areas to afford you this kind of activity. You can do it solo, without a super farm build, with 1 or 2 henchmen to aid you, and lower the drop kill from having henchmen. You can go kill whip out areas in the jungles, where it's easy and everything dies fast to fire and make a good bit of jinggle in your pocket. Another option for you, is to "Run" people for a fee. Do simple runs where you only charge a hand-ful of gold. Do the run for a long time, to get used to it so that you rarely fail, and you will generally make a little bit of money (between being scammed). Options for this, would work with nearly any character because you can have any character as your 2nd profession and obtain running skills/stances to make this work. Simple runs, like taking people from Yaks to Beacons, or running areas in the Jungle. If you're a ranger, you can easily run the Dessert without much skill and make quite a bit of plat doing that.
2 - You're a loner. You don't want a guild. Or you're in a guild, but it's not organized at all and no one really helps others out in terms of cash. You want some greens. You want to afford better armors. You're interested in 15k armor or big rune based builds. You want to try things.
If this is you, again, you're in luck. But you will have to work harder. You're going to have three options: (1) farm easy to kill spots for chump change, making 2 to 10 plat a day, which will take you hours. Do this for a few weeks, then you have enough cash to afford the things you probably want. Even then, you will have to do even more to fuel the habit, because like all things in life, buying happiness is temporary. You'll want more and thus be tired really fast and probably get sick of the game (because farming too much kills your interest). (2) Go on "Boss" farming runs or "Chest" runs. You can do these with public people. It will probably suck 7 out of 10 times and everyone will die and you'll have wasted time. But all it takes is one good run, or a decent chest run, and you'll walk away with a green item or a gold item (maybe more). Those in turn can easily be sold in different places in the game, anywhere from 4k to 100+k depending on what you got. Either way, an hour chest run, or an hour of boss hunting can yield a huge potential in money just based on the item you're looking to get. You may not always get it, but one time is all it takes. (3) Run popular zones. The dessert is the most popular and easiest way to make money. I say that, because nearly anyone can run the dessert if you learn it, and it's not nearly as hard as the Droks run. The funny part, is that you will make more money on the Dessert tour runs, than you will with Drok runs. Drok is a cheap run these days, because so many people duo-run it and the prices went down dramatically. The dessert is common for 300g per stop, massing up 2 plat or more per person for the whole desert, which equals about 8 to 10 plat for about 30~45 minutes on the high end of your time.
3 - You have a guild. Everyone needs money. No one has money. You're organized, and you all need to start making money to have fun. You all want 15k+ armors, items, maybe more.
If this is your setup, then this is perfect. Organize everyone to understand that you all must work together to slowly trick-out everyone of yourselves. As each person gets richer, you all get richer. Start by organizing a part of friends. Do boss farm runs. Hard ones. You will get the green items very fast. And because it's your guild, you don't lose the item to some random guy. Your guild has it, they give it to the leader, he then sells it for whatever, or multiples, and disperses the money amongst everyone. You do this for a week or more, and you will all have a lot of money fast (assuming there's 4 to 8 of you involved in this and no more). Otherwise, you do the same thing with Chest Runs. You organize run builds, go to the under world. Hard places in the shiver peaks, and run those chests. You'll eventually pop rare golds which are worth way more than green items if they're perfect. Golds are for real "unique" because not everyone can go get one. The mods are kind of random, and you can get odd combinations, but sometimes, the combos fit so well, and it has a Skin on the item that is desirable, that people will pay out of their teeth to get. A sword is a sword, regardless of the stats. A "long sword" with perfect mods (req8, 15^50, increased deep wound 33%, 30hp) will be worth a pretty penny. Because it's a perfect item. But it's just a long sword. Not many people just want a little old long sword because it doesn't look special. They will not pay much for it. However, if it's a Zodiac weapon, or a Crystaline weapon, etc, ie: hard to get weapons which just "look" different, then they will sell extremely high. These are the items that you want to farm. They will sell the highest. And they only come from (A) random drops, and (B) chests. You're way more likely to get them from chests, faster, hence why people do chest runs. Organized people can make millions a week, supporting each other, to afford keys and afford FoW access, and running chests.
Cheers!

My level 20 warrior does runs from yaks to Borlis pass for tips. I don't have a set price because i don't like going as low as 100g for a run, which is what a lot of people prices. When i first began my price was 500g. I got lucky and had 3 people give me that much for the run. I made 1500g easy, only minutes after i realised i am able to do this run.
Afterward i lowered it to 300, but no takers.
Lowered it to tips only and i make money FAST. People tip me from a range of 15-500 (Yes, someone still gave me 500 once.)
What really annoys me though is when i advertise "RUNNING TO BORLIS FOR TIPS" and people still whisper me asking how much it is >_>
but yeah, that's my moneymaker.
I don't know how to farm yet really. I have a friend who said he'll teach me how to farm level 22 hydras, but at the moment i can only take out a lone-hydra wandering not far from augury rock. TWO i can take, but only with a healer henchman.
I could take out more if i had a pro-player-healer with me. But that's not really solo-ing.

when i was getting my fow set for my warrior except the helm,
for the chest piece (the most expensive part) i did 2 man runs of uw as a ss necro. for the rest the first few days of factions a guildie found and showed me a place you could farm a set of green daggers easily that would sell for 70k each at the time, i farmed them untill i had enough money then got my fissure completed
these days i use my 55 monk outside droks, its slow but consistant money, you jsut sell almost everything to the merch, which means no sitting around selling shit for ages, havent done this for a few weeks, but it was decent money, made a 100k in a day of this.
seems the best way to make money tho is to buy low sell high, chest runs are nice too for mods or perfect weapons, running is ok but you get payed far less than your time is worth imo plus if boring as hell, green farming is decent if you can find a good green and sell it for a decent price compared to how long it took you to farm it.
Solo fow with my warriors used to be ok, clearing the beach and the cave and getting the chests while i was there, best i got was 7 shards and a gold req 10 14^50 gold chaos axe, which i still use now on my warrior
have yet to try solo or 2 man uw with my monk, onyl with my ss so far, but im told than solo takes way too long for what you get.

Quite simply, whatever you can buy with it, apparently.
Money is indeed worthless honestly. This game isn't about money and items. Skilled players can beat a team of well equipped rich people who don't know how the game works, or simply don't grasp the simple yet complex nature of selecting 8 skills for a build.
What it comes down to though, is what they do for fun.
If collecting money, endlessly, just to have a bigger number, like a "score" is fun for someone. Then so what.
It's a game right?

yes you are right. it totaly comes down to skill in the end, but a highly skilled person need good idems to genorate there power and that is where money comes in. basicly if you good at game and you have good iddems the you are good

ive been farming vermin and got a couple black drops. that fueled the 55 monk and now ive got no cash at all and a monk who i cant use worth a crap. well it was fun. vermin is pretty nice tho you can get 1.5k every 8 min and sometimes hit a green drop the will sell for 2-5k.
