I'll asume you are starting a ranger in Prophicies.
Basically the two aspects of PvE success are survival and progression.
I suggest you split your skill bar into 2 halves, 4 for survival, and 4 to pregress (basically, killing). As soon as you pass the searing, start out with the skills you recieve in the pre-searing Ascalon, until you get to Yak's Bend.
This build is on the assumption you are level 10 at Yak's Bend.
This is what I will be using on my newest Ranger/Mesmer (After buying skills from Grendich Courthouse and Yak's Bend):
- Troll Unguent [P]
- Distortion [Y]
- Dodge [Y]
- Ressurection Signet [P]
- Kindle Arrows [G]
- Dual Shot [P]
- Power Shot [P]
- Distracting Shot [Y]
P=Presear G=Grendich Courthouse Y=Yak's Bend
Damage
Dual Shot takes 7 seconds to recharge, and Power Shot, 6. This means that every 8 seconds (Additional 1 seconds for drawback and fire time), you can deal a large ammount of damage to foes.
Attributes
Beast Mastery: 0
Expertise: 0
Marksmanship: 6
Wilderness Survival: 6
Other Notes- Distortion should only be activated if your taking a beating from Warriors/Rangers as it drains your energy.
- If you are forced to activate Distortion, then activate Troll Unguent straight away, so you do not need to keep Distortion up.
- Try to keep Kindle Arrows on all the time while in battle.
- At 6 WS you will have +6 health regen' from Troll Unguent, which is enough to counter the degen' hexes in the early stages of the game.
- When an enemy enters a stance that causes them to dodge/evade your arrows, do not use Dual or Power Shot against them otherwise you waste your energy, which is precious with 0 in Expertise.
