Ultra Low Armor Troll Farming Build
This is a N/Mo Troll farming build for the Troll cave outside of Droknar’s Forge. It will also work against other hard hitting melee classes and should work in UW although I have never got past the first three or four AAtxe before the Nightmares strip all my enchantments.
The basics of this build are discussed in the Monk forum, but I have not seen anyone post a necro version here yet. So this is just to pass on the idea and to give you something much cheaper to make than a 55. The build is also far less rigid than a 55 build, costs very little to make and is fairly flexible in weapon requirements.
Armour:- All AL15 +energy/regen
- Curses +1 headpiece.
- Rune of Superior Curses
- Major Vigor rune if you can afford it.
- Health - normal health range 400-500hp. The actual figure is not critical.
Weapon :- Cheap curses, protection or smiting staff.
- Insightful staff head and a Staff Wrapping of Enchanting (doesn’t have to be 20%) if you can afford them.
For example: I have been using a non max Insightful Raven Staff of Enchanting dmg=10-20, energy +10, with an energy +4 head and enchantments last 13% longer.
Attributes:- Curses 16
- Protection Prayers 9
- Smiting Prayers 9
- Remainder into Soul Reaping
Skills:- Essence Bond – No Attribute
- Balthazar’s Spirit – Smiting Prayers
- Protective Spirit – Protection Prayers
- Spirit Bond – Protection Prayers
- Spiteful Spirit {Elite} - Curses
- Retribution – Smiting Prayers
Two skill slots left for anything else you wish to try for example Insidious Parasite or Reckless haste.
The idea of the build is to use the lowest armor you can get, probably AL15 so that the Trolls hit you for over 60 damage every time.
You then use the combination of Protective Spirit and Spirit Bond to keep you alive. The order of application of these spells is slightly unusual and could well be modified in some future update, but right now what happens is this:
A Troll hits you for around 80 damage. Protective Spirit reduces the damage to 45 (assuming 450 health). Spirit Bond heals you for about 75hp.
Energy management is the traditional combination of Essence Bond and Balthazar’s Spirit.
Killing is done by Spiteful Spirit and Retribution + anything else you want to try.
Usage:- Cast Balthazar’s Spirit, Essence Bond and Retribution on yourself as soon as you enter the area.
- Let your energy regen to around 25+
- Cast Spiteful Spirit to agro Troll group.
- Cast Protective Spirit on yourself as the Trolls get close.
- Cast Spirit Bond on yourself as soon as you have enough energy.
- Repeat casting Protective Spirit and Spirit Bond as the icons start flashing.
- Recast Spiteful Spirit on another Troll if you have enough energy and time.
Notes:
The Avarice will kill you as they do not hit hard enough to trigger Protective Bond. Try and avoid them rather than fight them.
The build will still work with 15% or even 30% Death Penalty.
The number of Trolls you can take on does not seem to have a limit. I had fun trying to round up as many as possible and the most I got to was about 22. The more Trolls though, the more chance there is that one of them will interrupt you eventually.
It is possible (rarely) for the Trolls to interrupt the recasts of Protective Spirit or Spirit Bond. You may get lucky and be able to recast it, but it is much more likely that you will die rather quickly.
It is more than possible that the Trolls will interrupt your second cast of Spiteful Spirit. Don’t worry, as Retribution will still kill them eventually.
I do not take any credit whatsoever for the basic idea as it was first posted in the Monk Forum.
Lastly – I am writing this whilst I am having a rather dull day at work, so I am not sitting in front of a PC with Guild Wars running. I hope I have not made any mistakes in writing this from memory, but feel free to comment if you think I have.
Enjoy
