B/P With R/E for Massive Degen
Doing B/P at tombs yesterday being my first time doing it, as a B/P.. I wondered why be a R/Mo? just for Rebirth? why not bring a rez sig instead and find something thatll take advantage of Barrage and do degen too...
I use a firey bow string on my most used bow... so I went with
8 Fire
10+1+1 marks
7+1 Wilderness
10+1 Expertise
4+1 rest in Beast
Barrage
Whirling Defense
Savage Shot
Winnowing/FW
Mark of Rodgort
Comfort Animal
Charm Animal
Rez
The idea was once a group clustered up, you cast mark of Rodgort on one, it becomes hexed and everything around it becomes hexed, which is For 23 seconds (i think, w/ 8 in fire) each time target is struck for fire damage, they are set on fire for 3 seconds (again, w/ 8 in fire)
Barrage + firey bow = instant massive Degen.. it worked quite well for me today when i tried it out

Becauses deaths there are common and you can't recharge your sig untill the very end of the run.
Now concerning your build: with 12 marksmanship, you lose 4 damage from barrage and 15% from your normal attacks (before barrage bonus). Plus Mark of Rodgort casting time. That's a lot of attribute points/energy for not much I think.
If you really wanna go R/E, why don't you use Glyph of Lesser Energy, Mark of Rodgort and Conjure Flames?

I did try with conjure flames but the difference was minor compared to the energy cost of it and rodgort in the same skirmish, glyph of lesser energy was on my wishlist but there wasnt any room on the skillbar so I didnt bring it with me, so about the 3rd level i gave up using conjure flame all together and was better off

Slim said it.
Either way, Mark of Pain is better.

You don't want elemental bowstrings, since that makes you deal 17 less damage.
I used R/P there since GftE and Anthem of Envy charge up quickly with barrage and affect a lot of arrows. Also Signet of Return is a hard rez.
Also with neither 13 expertise nor a zealous bowstring, you will run out of mana spamming barrage.

Exactly, what you need is physical damage, elsewise the entire point of B/P erodes. Might should even consider (till its nerf) Splinter Weapon.
Flail / an IAS in general is better then wasting your time with burning.

Well met!
Wo Tan Ki, my R/E, has been using the following with some success:
Marksmanship--14; Expertise--13; Fire--10
Barrage, Conjure Flame, Splinter Shot, Savage Shot, Distracting Shot, Screaming Shot, Whirling Defense, and 2 of the following: Lightening Reflexes, Dodge, Mark of Rotgort, Inferno, Throw Dirt, Flame Djinn's Haste, Troll's Unguent, Antidote Signet, Signet of Capture, Resurrection Signet
Have a Flaming Longbow of Defense 15-28 (+5 armor, +5 energy), Gold Celestial Bow (-10 while attacking makes me hesitate to use it), no Vampiric bows or strings, no Zealous string, Green Zealous (piercing damage, my only green bow), a Barbed Shortbow of Fortitude and a Poison Recurve Bow of Fortitude, both Gold
Druid's Armor with Runes
Basically, like to keep Longbow distance, Conjure Flame, and spam Barrage and Splinter Shot (hit or miss, I still hit) for damage, and Savage Shot and Distracting Shot to interrupt; like Screaming Shot for bleeding and damage to single Monsters (MonsterMatch.com), other skills to deal with trouble when pressed
Works pretty well in the field, but would appreciate any feedback on tweaking this build, especially what skills to put on my bar after the first 4 or 5

two reasons:
1) party wipes are not uncommon, so rebirth can help out. plus with a lack of bosses/moral boosts, if you use your sig, its gone for a bit.
2) using an elemental bowstring negates the synergy of the b/p team. you must be dealing physical dmg in order to trigger OoV. if you arent, then you might as well drop the orders, and have all the rangers switch to R/E. then it works ok. but you lose out on the armor ignoring life steal and the healing power of the orders.

Finally.... it took 9 replies for someone to mention the slight conflict of interest between ORDERS and ELEMENTAL BOWSTRINGS.
B/Ps use /Mo for Rebirth, Res Chant, Judges Insight or maybe Mending Touch. R/Ps use /P for Go for the Eyes, Signet of Return and maybe some other stuff... R/Rts use Weapon spells and Flesh of my Flesh. I did use to run R/W for IWAY and R/Me for Physical Resistance (backfires nicely sometimes ).
Aslong as your entire party isn't running a non-hard res secondary you should be fine. If 1 or 2 of them are... the rest of your team should have some common sense to not all get killed by some stupid error leaving you with no choice but to bitch for them using there res already when you should be looking out more.

Speaking of R/Rt in the above posts if some of the rit weapon spells get buffed like they were during the test weekend and providing that barrage is still interpreted by rit weapon spells as 6 separate attacks then you're going to see a lot of really nice barrage damage in the form of Nightmare weapon and splinter weapon barragers. Brutal barrage already works pretty well but splinter weapon is going to be a beast to see in action with spread damage coming off of 5 of the arrows....groups will drop extremely quickly.

R/E Conjure Barrage builds only really work in mission/quest style PvE. In bp groups, they just don't fit in. In tombs, you will negate orders by doing elemental damage and in Sorrow's Furnace you will negate Winnowing as well as have the burning plague touched back onto your allies when it is inflicted on gnashers or binders. On top of this, you must sacrifice self heal/defense and/or interupts to be able to run a conjure barrage build with a pet.
A R/Rt might be a legitamate option if weapon spells get buffed like they were in the last weekend event, but even then, the sacrifice of interupts and/or defense can still cause problems when using this combo.

you have an elemental bow string. as an orders necro, i would be very pissed if you were on my team. the rest of the rangers are dealing decent damage, your not.
