My guess is that it doesnt matter which you enter the UW from because you still end up in UW. Its the continuous entering of a single zone and killing certain numbers of enemies that starts the anti-farming code. So after the drops go bad just go do pvp or a mission or something and then come back.

And on average i would have to say that it probably works to be 1 ecto per run. Thats solo anyway. I've gone in trap groups killing everything and seen none drop. So it really is luck based.

ya same feeling here. but it won't hurt to try but it seems like a bit over kill do that. i guess whatever floats your boat

my average is 1 per run so 4-5 per hour depending how fast you are at the smites. my recommendation if you are going for your FoW armor is go green farming...much more profitable...use that gold to buy your ectos. at least thats what i did.

I found this Statistic on GuildWiki.org...

The Bladed Attaxes have a 50% MORE chance of dropping Ecto, so don't JUST FARM THE SMITES! Yes, the Bladed drop ecto too, farm both of them..

UW is mainly luck though, and A net is always fiddling with drop rates because one people find a spot of decent farming they nerf it within half a week... that just goes to show how fast word spreads by telling your little one friend and telling him not to tell anyone, and he tells his little one friend, and he tells his ALLIANCE lol..

That has nothing to do with this, but like I said A net is always fiddling and nerfing with drops I think..

Not to mention, drops are a very very complex system, and only the coders and the game creators know how it 100% works IMO...

i average around 0-2 a run, with the occasional run where i get 3 or 4 ecto
best run 3 ecto 2 keys and a gold drop form dying nightmare lol ( non max truncheon)

I was constantly using Chantry of Secrets as my entry point, and when my drops tailed off I went to help a guildmate do some quests and a mission in the crystal desert in Tyria, but it did not seem to have any effect on my poor drops. Of course with drops being totally random it can be hard to tell.

In theory I dont think it should matter where you go, but I would like to hear of any other experiences.

There are 4-5 entrances to the UW accross the continents.. O.o

Last night I did 3 more complete smite runs after making this thread. That was a few hours after the first 4.

Got no ectos at all. Got a sapphire on the 6th run and that's the only rare material I got in 7 runs, although I did get a few really crappy golds which I guess might have screwed up my ecto drop rate.

I'd have to say 0. In 40 runs i've had 4 ectos, 10 runs later i got 2 ecto in a single run. So thats about 9/10 runs with 0 ecto. Not really that impressive tbh, smites are just getting too overfarmed. You can make more money just killing Kirins.

There is one in the shiverpeaks on the beacons to droks run. I have visted it a few times on droks runs but never gone down to UW from there, mainly because it takes so long to get there and when you do your not normally with a team/build setup for UW.

Correct, there are four entrances, but is anyone seriously going to use the one half way down the Droks run? LOL

Always wondered why that entrance is there to be honest.

Hmmm.. you know, I might just try hero/henching my way there, then getting the hench/heros to suicide and then solo the place just to see if there is a difference in drops.. I can't imagine it will be time effective though, but it sounds like something to try for a change sometime.

If there is a 5th entrance then I must have missed it somewhere on my way to the 3 x Grandmaster Cartographer titles I have on my ranger. Anything is possible though I guess.

my best 5 ectos 3 golds + gold from chest

but allot of times iv had 0 ectos, if i get 0 ectos i go and do something else like a chest run or some skill capping then come bk in a few hours then ill get some more.

I think the anti farmer code has something to do with it, if u keep entering a zone repetedly then drops get worse?

try make a search for it if ur intrested

First - Anyone can post things on GuildWiki. Just because it's posted there doesn't mean it's true. There is a TON of information that is absolutely wrong on GuildWiki.

Second - This information is one of those "absolutely wrong" statements. I have farmed enough ecto for 3 sets of fissure and most of them came from smites. I used to do 2 man Monk/Necro runs and kill all the aatxes and smites. I don't even bother with the aatxes anymore. Runs are much quicker when you just do smites.

Sorry to get off topic, but what greens do you farm? I can farm a number of greens but none of them really sell or much.

the ecto drop rate from smites is less than .2%

the ecto drop rate from aataxes is 4%
