i prefer the furious over the sundering. ya sundering might trigger more often but its only 20% more damage on 11-22damage (im not even going to get into the actual math on this) as where the furiour powers up the higher +damage skills faster giving me a better control over my damage output IMO.

my second choice is vamp, doing 3 life drain on every hit and gain that much life is pretty great, its constant and reliable.

Furious can be good in certain setups, like triggering on a dragon slash and things of that ilk, but otherwise its not worth it imo. On paper anyway, vamp yields the highest dps but there are drawbacks to consider depending on what you are doing in the game (pvp or whatever). Elemental mods can also be very useful in certain contexts (negating armour bonues v phys). Sundering is a safe mod and can lead to some nicer spike damage even if, theoretically, it does less damage over time than vamp.

This thread is kinda fail.

Zealous if you need energy.
Vamp if you want raw DPS.
Sundering if you don't want to deal with -1 degen (QQ says sundering is good, And I believe them)
Elemental if they have a resistance to physical damage.

I've been wondering about that myself, Thom. I see a lot of GvG players using sundering weapons, even from high ranked guilds. I can't figure it out, to be honest, after all the threads and calculations showing that vamp has more raw DPS. Perhaps there's more to sundering than it seems?

Did QQ say why they like it?

It's one less thing to worry about during the downtime between fights. IMO, Sundering is FTL.

Zealous is FTW in an IaS build, otherwise, it is almost useless, (it makes absolutely no difference at all at a regular attack speed )

Vampiric is just pure win if you dont mind swapping...

Shocking and Icy are good elemental mods because those damage types arent usually anticipated as much in PvP. Makes no difference in PvE other than the area you're in.

Fiery and Ebon aren't as good because people take armour Vs fire and earth, cause of two ele elites... Again, totally irrelevant in PvE

Cruel is... ok at the best of times - not bad against bosses in pve with self heals, as it cuts the power of said heal while you maintain the pressure.

Barbed is great for PvE pressure oriented builds - at maximum swordsmanship, this gives you about 10 extra seconds of bleeding on an oponent - an extra 60 damage over time provided it doesn't get removed - hence, useful in PvE against high health, high armour targets like bosses.

Crippling is muahahahahasville vs squishies, but honestly, if you haven't killed them before the cripple would have run out, you either REALLY suck, or are just plain unlucky...

Furious is for dragon slash warriors only. That is all.

Those are my guns, and I'm sticking to them.

Zealous does make a differance at regular attack speed, I use zealous a lot of the time and i think its great, mabye not for uber-competitive PvP but im not into that. But for relaxed PvE its awsome it just opens up more options to play around with e.g.

Warrior: "Wow necro skills look so fun, but i havent got enough energy regen, this makes me sad"
ZealoMan " dont cry little one, here use this zealous mod it will give you all the energy you need to play with those fun skills!"
Warrior: " Yay! go ZealoMan, zealous mods rock!"

(dramatic reconstruction)

elemental always good vs wars

and sundering I generally don't use - even though it's a fairly nice mod for easy going PvE lol...but I don't PvE that much
just saying for added damage, zealous adds none...your choice, but i usually have no energy problems.

I'm kinda curious about that myself.

Does it have something to do with the potential it will triger during a spike? Surely it isn't just because of the -1 degen.

base armour penetration sources such as the strength line and skills like [card]penetrating blow[/card] DO stack with bonus armour penetration....

http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Armor_penetration

so..... a warrior with 10 in strength hits a foe and bonus triggers = 30 armour penetration.....

lets do some math.... since its 20% chance lets calculate 5 hits... lets say again that our hits are all 30 damage for calculations sake...and our warrior has 10 in strength (10% armour pen)

hitting a squishy foe (60 armor)

-33,-33,-33,-33,-41 (bonus triggers) = -173 damage

if you hit the same target with penetrating blow...and bonus triggers... the resulting damage stacks with the skill (not strength...see above link) and the damage would be = -46 ...and add onto that the skills +damage at 15 axe mastery and you get a whoppin -66 damage...

so its not really all that bad.... I personally use it a lot....mostly because I dont like the -1 from vamp :P

sundering is +damage with no hassle...

Hehe... How long will it take to understand this. The vamp vs. sundering battle seems to be endless.

VAMPIRIC: Good for pressure. Balance: If you don't weapon swap, there will be backlash; the pressure will affect your own team, not the enemy.

SUNDERING: Good for spikes, especially spikes involving two (or more... eh) spikers. Balance: Since it might not trigger, it's unreliable.

High ranked GvG'ers like sundering because they don't want pressure on their own team (duh) and because organized spikes are common in GvG (certainly compared to RA etc lol)

There are spots where zealous has uses in pve, i used zealous mods in a number of farming builds. But I don't like it much in PvP. Given the amount of time spent blind, with ageis up, ward camping, having people kite and whatnot the energy you spend using skills is not going to be given back to via zealous a better rate than your natural +2 regen in my experience. In PvE when you know you can just stand there throw up an IAS and hit something till it dies then zealous is nice. In PvP I very rarely find it worthwhile.

Vamp > All imo

But none of that matters. Mallyxs Edge is one of the finest skins in Guild Wars tho tbh most skins are junk. Also furious is a very good mod.

Best sword in game both for skin and damage = Kanaxai's edge.

Second best (much cheaper than Mallyx's 10-12k) ugly as sin though, Sskai's.

That is my opinion and I am sticking to it.
