I find that, with this build, if you cast Veil of Thorns and Armor of Sanctity before running into battle, usually, as the AI attacks you, it realizes how little it's doing and lays off. Usually until dead too.
If you happen to find yourself under real pressure, lay down all your enchants, starting with mystic regen, and just Dwayna's touch like mad (5 e, 3/4 sec cast, 2s recharge) for 150 health per 2 3/4th seconds, not counting regen from mystic regen.
Bottom line, if you REALLY want IW for PvE (and PvP for that matter ), that build is exactly what you want.

Nothing sounds smarter than a character with 60 AL running into a mob of level 24-28 monsters.

Most experienced mesmers that would choose IW would have the common sense not to jump into an area like that using an IW build. Considering that mesmers look at the monsters in an area before going in, not like the rest of the easy to use professions.

Not to mention that, truly, most intelligent mesmers will probably use armor with the blessed insignia with IW. (+10 AL when enchanted)

Of course there is always the Me/A version which is pretty useful. I mean it might not have IAS but the regen and armor from Feigned Neutrality is worth it.

If you're seriously choosing IW for any kind of standard PvE, you aren't experienced. Unless you don't mind playing as a liability to your team, or are gimmicking.

Avarre the only time I ever consider using IW is when i'm using heroes and henchman for fun. I'd never hinder a human team by using an IW build.

Oh, I did enjoy playing IW in southern shiverpeaks.
Even with PuGs.
Just make sure there is no enchantment removal in range and let the warrior take aggro first.
And let the team know you are playing IW.
I hardly ever needed healing as IW, just know your opponents and skills.

honestly, IW isnt a skill to be taken seriously. its just a fun and gimicky skill to use in RA and AB. any real mesmer would never take such a silly skill into a high rated GvG or HA battle. it is also NOT suited for PvE for obvious reasons...if i have a mesmer on my team, i expect them to play a mesmers role: shutting down a specific profession/group of professions, not play a next to useless "warrior" role.
if you do want to use it though, go with Me/D. if youre going to be in the front line, you will need some defense such as conviction. use vital boon+signet of pious light for your main heal, and mystic regeneration for extra protection.

I personally think IW is a useless skill... 34 damage every hit isnt nearly as good as the 70-100+ damage warriors, assassins, and dervishes can put out.

m/r IW
My mesmer has protector of cantha and elonia titles, all done as IW. The damage of maxed out Ill. is 42, if using speed buffs, this is about every.75 sec., can't be blocked, or affected by conditions. The build I use always has conjure phantasm, images of remorse, and clumsiness. I cast 1 or 2 of these right away, so that by the time I have run into melee range, the enemy is usually almost dead, and my energy has had a chance to recharge a little. If IW gets stripped, I just switch to my staff and use these skills, while I wait for a chance to go IW again. Its best to try to attack an enemy already being engaged by a melee player, so you dont bear the brunt of its attacks. 'Hekets Rampage' is the speed buff I use instead of 'Flurry', at 12 Beast mastery it gives 10 sec. of buff for 5e, instead of 'Flurry's 5 sec., and can be maintained constantly. Since this is such a simple build, there is space to take advantage of 12 Beast Mastery, and take a strong pet to help or even tank for you. I use a Black Moa, because it is the coolest looking pet in the game. I get some comments about a mesmer with a pet carrying a sword, but this an effective build, as long as you dont allow yourself to get mobbed..remember you are not a tank. And of all the builds of all the professions I have played, it is easily the most fun. And this is a GAME, don't take it so seriously, guys.

Agree 100% with Michelle. Its not about what the best role is for a mesmer - its about having fun. The build/lines she described is very fun to use and keeps your character (and game) a bit interesting. For the casual players looking for something to try, I def recommend it

This is the most capable IW build I've seen. If you're under attack, slots 4-6 have your back. Because of all the enchants in this build, you're pretty much covered 24/7. Dwayna's Touch works as a nice spike heal, too.
However, if you're still running a flurry build, I'd leave IW at home. These builds are usually low on survivability, and on top of that, just generally easily counterable and able-to-be-seen-from-a-mile-away.

*falls in love* Mesmer with a Scythe? YOU BET!
Edit: actually yea i read wrong, a sword is better, but for AoE melee, not bad :P
