Default Doctor Olias Goes to Hell

Have you ever witnessed what a weapon of mass destruction can do? Or may be you’ve seen carpet bombings on the battlegrounds? Seen towns devastated by a bubonic plague? No? Well, while I don’t recommend seeing such things in real life, you still have a chance of checking it out in virtual reality – not much needed for it – just take Doctor Olias with you when you leave town next time. Oh, and make sure he takes his first-aid set with him!
The following is what he should put into his medicine chest:

Animate Bone Horror (15e – 3s – 5r)
Animate Bone Fiend (25e – 3s – 5r)
Animate Shambling Horror (15e – 3s – 25r) – these guys will cause bleeding (we WILL need it!)
Virulence (Elite) (5e – 1s – 15r) – key medicine in Dr Olias’ first-aid kit
Epidemic (5e – 1/4s – 5r) – share virulent love with friends!
Signet of Lost Souls (0e – 1/4s – 8r) – must have for a necro
Blood of the master (5e – 1s – 2r) – heal your dead pets
-- Optional – (Dr Olias keeps Power Drain in there)

Attributes:
16 Death - never less for a minion master
13 Soul Reaping - nice energy return

Now let me just tell you what happens on the battle fields when I take doctor Olias with me (and I never leave home without him!). The moment I click on the ‘Dismember’ skill, I hear Olias say:
“Hey Mr None (my IGN), watch it! I told you not to swing your axe like this! Look what you’ve done! Dammit, how many times did I tell you axes may hurt people!? Now this little margonite cleric is deeply wounded!
…. Hold on mister, I know CPR! Here, take this nice little pill, it says ‘If a patient is suffering from a condition…’ and I clearly see you’ve got a condition on you! Here, swallow it, here you go, good boy… oh, wait wait… don’t take it if you haven’t already… the instruction says: “Virulence is known to have side effects like Disease, Poison, Weakness and finally… death… ” oh... sht… let me try another pill ‘Epedimic’… oh sht… don’t you die on me mister… ohhh… well… don’t you worry! I can revive people! I can bring people back to life! Let me cast one of those animate spells… “

I can swear I hear those he treats yelling out loud: “OMG YOU HAXOR!!111!! I WILL REPORT YOU TO ABBADON!!!! OMG” and then /ragequitting into the oblivion

Doctor Olias is a very careful doctor. If he sees someone burning, he tries to extinguish it with virulence; if he sees someone wounded, he tends to their wounds with virulence; if he sees crippled, blinded, weakened foes, he mends it with his magical panacea called “Virulence” and enhances the effect with Epidemic.

Try it out. This build is solid and has been tested in many areas. Thirsty River is like a kindergarten for a three-people team (me being a warrior, a hero monk and Olias). If you happen to farm lightbringer points in Domain of Secrets you’ll feel sorry for all those margonites Olias dispatching in packs

PS: Since I never played Necromantic myself, I first had to get the idea of a decent build for a MM, which I found to be posted here by Zinger314, so credit for the initial build goes to Zinger314

I loved Virulance the few times I used it in RA. I'm using the Golem elite on my hero MM atm, but that is because I never took my necro to Cantha and my hero has no real need for it (but it is cool to have the big one with you:P ).

Will try this out, sounds like great fun. And great way to discribe a build

I like the sound of this build, but more than that, the way the original post is worded made me laugh :-)

Good job!

Funny writing ftw!

But let me follow up on the hard news in your build. Are you saying that Olias does a good job of chaining Epidemic right after Virulence?

Since Olias is still a computer-controlled idiot, he sometimes messes with the right sequence and casts Epidemic before Virulence, but hey, having 4-5 enemies with a nasty condition is better then having only one, isnt it? Then again, Virulence lasts for 20 seconds, while Epidemic recharges in 5 so he still has chance to cast it again

Moreover, you can take Epidemic yourself as well (it is not bound to any attribute). Feel free to show Olias how to use it correctly (poor innocent mobs being a lab rabbits for ya there) - "You see Olias, that is not the right way to kill that innocent diseased, bleeding, weakened and poisoned creep down there, look how it is done (click Epidemic) - Share the love with his friends, mate, dont be shy"

Build sounds solid except you have no energy coming in. Drop curse to 10 or 11 and make soul reaping 10. Also drop friend and replace with dark bond, even at 0 blood you have 30 secs of 75% damage reduction. No reason to have 3 minions, especially when you are looking for bleeding from your minions.

Oops sorry for the mistake - of course I ment soul reaping 13, not curses (there is not a single curses skill in the build)

Instead of taking Powerdrain why not Leech Signet? If you are keeping the attributes at that then that leaves 3 left over for inspiration. So in that case Power Drain will only provide you with 2 energy upon use due to its 5e req whereas leech signet will not only give you 5 energy if it interrupts a spell but it can also interrupt any action.

The only downside to leech is the 30 sec CT vs 25 sec CT on PD. Even still a worthwhile switch is it not?

Power Drain is not there for energy - 13 soul reaping keeps him full. As for the Leach Signet - I think you're right... there is never a limit to a perfection

Its sounds like something to try, but what against torment creatures?

I prefer they spike on one, instead of doing alot of AoE with the risk of uncontrolled summoning of new torment creatures.

Great Build!
Put him with other heroes that also carry multiple conditions:

Jin or Margrid with Broadhead Arrow, Pin Down and Apply Poison
Norgu with Conjure Phantasm, Crippling Anguish and Mantra of Persistence

I play an SF Ele mostly so this would be a good compliment too.

After a couple of days using this build for Olias, I have to say it's the bomb, and a nuke at that! Friends trying it agree! Simply a superb build that simply melts the opposition away. Thank you!

Not to be a jerk or anything, but you only use CPR on someone who has no pulse, and/or isn't breathing...works for a choking unconscious person too...but the chances at bringing someone back with CPR is pretty slim...

That aside, I like the build quite a bit. It kind of reminds me of a daze epidemic ranger.

Having played with Mr None before I can also vouch for this build.

The only problem one might encounter is a bit of boredom since once the minion army reaches critical mass there is little left to do except race the minions to the next enemy or "spam" LB gaze.

PS: He's also a really nice guy to play with, controlled, disciplined and always willing to listen to ideas and comments.

First off, great narrative style - enjoyed reading it quite a bit.

One of the things that the heroes really have done for this game (to me) is make me interested in learning some other builds. I hate support builds, hate them with a passion. No doubt they are not only useful, but required, I just detest playing them. Heroes have given me a great chance to play with those builds and learn from them. It has opened a whole new part of the game (plus with them only needing unlocks I can test some builds with them I would have to spend quite a few gold and skill points on).

I also like taking a few "Go for the Eyes" spammers. Especially if my main is a melee character, a barrage Ranger, Dervish, or Cyclone Axe warrior can usually spam "GftE" quite a bit and the AI doesn't do it as often as I would like. At 9 command a 57% chance of a crit with all those nice undead running around - well even my MM necro thinks pretty hard about being a paragon secondary and adding another GftE spam.

Dr Olias finishes both internships and grad school to not only become a MD, but an MD PhD

very nice build idea. and the way you described it, very entertaining and funny! You make us just want to suit up our own Olias's with this build just because of your wording. You could probably make r11's think that mending+frenzy is the next FotM build!

Im not a MM master by ANY stretch of the imagination so feel free to negate this suggestion.

A few time (not many) when olias bit the dirt I found myself with bunch of undead to fight as well.. I used Verata's Gaze in the empty slot and found with a quick rez olias had most of them under control again.

Just a maybe suggestion from a non MM expert.
