Default How Heroes ruined GW

I guess most people prolly won't agree with this, but for me, heroes have totally ruined the GW PVE experience.

I finished Prophecies, all quests, missions and bonuses, with PUGs the first time around. I thought that was pretty challenging with my e/n. When I was done, I repeated everything with the 5 other professions. And when that was done, I soloed all the missions with henchies. It was pretty hard, really, and it took multiple attempts to finish some stuff.

Factions was also challenging, especially trying to get masters on everything with wildly unpredictable PUGs. PUGs add a big x factor that keeps things surprising and at worst can make missions supremely difficult.

Then came Nightfall. And Heroes. Heroes are powerful. You can build them anyway you want. They behave in a totally predictable way and do whatever you want. They aren't like the old henchies. They aren't like PUGs either. They amplify an individual player's skill exponentially.

To be honest, they make me too good. I don't mean this in a boastful way, cause I think prolly all players with some PVE skills have experienced some of the same fall off in interest since heroes were introduced.

Whereas before, the horrible henchie AI could cause me to lose a bonus mish in THK or wherever, it's all too simple now to steamroll everything with my main char and a few choice heroes.

PUGs have become totally unnecessary. Guildmates. Who needs em? The PVE game has become boring. It's too easy. I never get stuck. I can finish anything I want whenever I want. Yuck....

You ever realised if you "finished" all three campaigns with all chars what you will do? forever linger in DoA, the deep or FoW, accumulating more treasures, to no avail. Fighting the same monsters over and over that do respond in always the same reliable way. Try some PvP, and see that it has more lasting power than PvE. The skills used are changing quite a bit now and then, people play with different behaviors and strategies. U have to adapt and you will most likely have to acknowledge that it will be more of a challenge.

No-one forced you to use heros. You have to bring 1 or 2 with you for certain quests or missions... but not once are you forced to elsewhere. Even then you could just make them into Mhenlo replica's and copy his skillbar.

I fail to see how your saying Heros have ruined it, but yet you've made no attempt to not use them. If you wanted it that way you just wouldn't use them instead of complaining that its made PvE too easy.

And surely if the reason we failed missions before was due to idiots in pugs... heros is the sensible option. Fun comes in many forms... personally i'd like to get the damn mission over with than wait for pugs to go afk or screw something up. Lot more fun that way.

PvP has variation? Like hell it does, moment 1 FotM build is nerfed people use another... skillbars are almost entirely set in stone, only difference is people use them differently...

You're right, Evisod, I don't have to use them. But the fact that I can use them anytime I want kinda takes the shine off the PVE game.

Let me give you an example. When I was trying to get the THK bonus mish the first time, the main reason it was so compelling was because I wasn't really sure if I would EVER be able to get it done.

Well, eventually I did get it done, but for a couple weekends I was very engrossed in the game and in that bonus mission -- all those darned close calls, and "If only that idiot didn't AFK we'd have got it!" etc etc. In retrospect, that's what makes it so compelling and fun. Or maybe I'm just a masochist.

Well, I never really am in doubt anymore about whether I'll be able to do this that or the other thing. Sometimes I'll try a PUG or whatever for a mish or quest, but if it doesn't work out I just equip my monk heroes, go in and kick arse all over the place.

The outcome is never in doubt if you know what I mean. It's like having a permanent free spin in Wheel of Fortune, or a permanent "Get out of jail" card in Monopoly.

Maybe u misinterpreted what i was wanting to bring. I ment that PvP might be a bit more challenging then killing the smae monsters over and over again. Once u have found a way to beat AI it is quite easy to beat the simple parts in game and all quests. DoA requires a bit more planning, but its rather gimmicky as well.

Humans however play in a different style, kite a lot or not, play split builds etc, HA might be prone to all spike builds, but in gvg or teams its less of an issue. However not knowing how opponets will play, and might change during the match is more "challenging" and rewarding to my opinion. Its not a fact, but just what i feel. Getting zillions of gold is not fullfilling my GW goals.

Getting bonus on THK with Heroes > Losing it multiple times because someone leaves.
Always did, always will.

This forum is for hero builds and strategy, not complaining about them. Closed.
