Go into Old Ascalon and wander down the north path a bit. I think it's supposed to look like the seared entrance to Green Hills Country with the giant ruined Balthazar statue. A ranger will give you a quest called Endangered Species or something of the like.

I was wondering.. i have a beast master ranger and i wanted to know if the kind of pet you own makes a difference... for example.. is a bear stronger but slower than a lynx?

i found the guy in old ascalon, and got the quest. but i don't know where to find the cat thing. and says charm it if you need to but i do not have the charm skill please help!

Not really sure about this, but if you're a ranger, I'm pretty sure that someone's given you the charm skill. Just press "k" to bring up your skills list. Should be there. As for the stalker, IF I remember correctly, its a near where you go through the gate to get to Piken. Think the guard is called gateguard hollis or something.
