I just made a monk and I have some questions
I'm a noob to being a monk, I just made one a few days ago. I have a lot of questions, and please do not start yelling at me to search it, everytime I try to search something on here about 90% it comes up as cannot be displayed and it gets really annoying.
What exactly is a 55 monk?
Why do monks want -50 or -20 offhands?
What exactly is a bonder?
Can you solo farm with a monk at all?
My monk still has noob armor and I was wondering which kind is the best? I could buy it from any world, I'm just not sure what kind to get. My monk is currently level 15 created in factions but has been in all worlds. With my luck I would buy something retarded and regret wasting my money on it later, but I'm sure it depends which kind of monk I want to be. I also need information on which runes and/or insignias I should buy. Currently I have none. Sometimes I switche over to an all mesmer build to complete quests, but I want to be something with actual monk skills.
Right now I am just barely getting past with healing, but I want to do more. It's really boring and right now it seems that my build sucks. I can barely keep people/henchmen/heroes alive.
This is my current build which I do not like at all.
[skill]Words of Comfort[/skill][skill]Healing Breeze[/skill][skill]Jamei's Gaze[/skill][skill]Mend Ailment[/skill][skill]Heal Other[/skill][skill]Orison of Healing[/skill][skill]Remove Hex[/skill][skill]Resurrect[/skill]
Basically I don't really know what to do with my monk and I want to know different kinds of monks that are wanted in missions or that can farm alone. If anyone could give me some tips, suggestions, or links then that'd be great. Thank you.

What is a 55 monk.
A monk with 55 health. It stays alive through Protective Spirit reducing all damage down to five and having lots of regen which works faster than the damage. It is a farming build and not very versatile - if you try to run it in general PVE you will die.
Why do monks want -50/-20 offhands. To reduce their health down to 55 (the -20 is for if you have DP).
A bonder is a passive protection monk, who establishes life bonds ([skill]Life Bond[/skill]) on people, then hides towards the back while maintaining htem. They use [skill]Blessed Signet[/skill] to keep their energy.
Yes, with the above mentioned 55 monk.
Health armour is generally the strongest armour you can get.
First off stay away from healing in general. It's a weak line. Protection for general play will be far more effective for you. A general play PVE monk that I would run would look like
[skill]Zealous Benediction[/skill][skill]Gift of Health[/skill][skill]Reversal of Fortune[/skill][skill]Spirit Bond[/skill][skill]Dismiss Condition[/skill][skill]Holy Veil[/skill][skill]Glyph of Lesser Energy[/skill][skill]Rebirth[/skill]. Ok, I tell a lie, I wouldn't run rebirth but most pugs want it. It's very strong and I've monked my way through all three campaigns as a sole monk using it or something similar.
For farming, you're going to want the 55 build, I don't know it well enough, someone else can answer that.

yes, monk is one of the best characters for solo farming, there are TONS of builds in the "Campfire" section of these forums, under "Farming". There are indepth guides that tell you builds, armor, runes, weapons, where to farm, and tricks to go about farming it.
Monks want -50 and -20 off hand items to reduce their health to certain amounts so builds can be efffective.
A 55 monk means you wear armor with all superior runes in it, so your health is 105, then when you equip the -50hp offhand it brings yourhealth down to 55.
The reason for this is because you want to use the spell protective spirit, which limits the damage you take to 10% max health, so you are only taking 5.5 damage per attack, no matter what it is. Then with skills like mending and healing breeze your health regens faster than you take damage, so in essence you are "invincible".
55 monks use spells like Shield of Judgement, or sometimes Illusionary Weapon to do damage. This is the basic concept of solo monk farming, there are other variations for it.
As far as skills go, it depends on what you need to be used for.
Bonding is when you maintain enchantments on party members like Life Bond and Life Barrier to reduce damage on party members.
WoH monks are generally full heal, meaning they use only healing and divine attributes, max both, and use straight healing spells, and Word of Healing as the elite. These builds are great in areas that penalize u for using enchants.
Other monk builds like a Spell breaker monk are situation specific, for if you need a monk to do that.
I generally run a Healers Boon monk for PvE
Healers Boon {E}
Heal party
Dywanas Kiss
Infuse Health
Healing Seed
Healing Touch
Dismiss Condition
Rebirth
That is if u have Proph, and Nightfall. Guildwiki has tons of builds and such for PvE and PvP for monks.

As far as armor goes, get some inscribable armor from nightfall, then if you feel like changing from health to energy or whatever sort of armor it's relatively cheap. And I would defineately go to the campfire section for solo monk builds, but here is a general one.
Mo/W
[skill]Shield Of Judgment[/skill][skill]Protective Spirit[/skill][skill]Healing Breeze[/skill][skill]Blessed Signet[/skill][skill]Bonetti's Defense[/skill][skill]Balthazar's Spirit[/skill][skill]Mending[/skill][skill]Blessed Aura[/skill]
Use 1 Sup rune for each attribute, plus one double. -50 offhand and typically a Sword/Axe/Spear of enchanting is used. I don't remember the attribute because for me it tends to change every time

like its been stated a 55 monk is amonk 55hp, they uses 5 sup runes to remove Hp down to 105hp, then thay use the -50hp cesta form the citys of ascholon quest to get it down to 55hp, they use PS to reduce dam to 5 a hit then they use Healing breeze and mending to give them a health regen to heal then selfs.
there r to builds for 55 monks the damage dealer as stated above post or the tanker, useal with a SS necro
bummer cant get the bbcode thinggy to work
ppl want the -50 and -20 for reducing HP to 55 and if u die to a further 13hp.
A bonder uses such moves as [Life Bond] [Life Barrier] and [Bleesed signit] to reduce damage als o i would go with the build in the first post as at the moment its perfect, tho id change [Spirit Bond] for [Protective Spirit]

Not all Mo/W are 55 Monks though as it is becoming more aware of Mo/W playing the role of normal heal and protect.I play Mo/W for the most part even in missions.

Shield Bash And Deadly Riposte FTW (in RA/TA), and yes Mo/W arent only 55's and not all 55's are Mo/W.

Yep, most of the time when I run a 55 I go Mo/R for Serpents Quickness (so I can chain SoJ twice). Mo/Me with arcane echo also works.

Yes and no.
Protect is awesome but in the case of PvP, it's wise to have a healer monk also.
