Ele goes to PvP - Gets STOMPED!
OK - So, I have been enjoying PvE for the last year-or-so and decide, Hey lets try a little Person v. Person action - Random Arena style!
Considered my PvE Nuker and Spiker an Ass-Kicker... Walked in to RA as a Spiker, got teamed up with (3) Random others, we WON our 1st Match - Then, over the course of the next hour, LOST EVERY OTHER MATCH . And, as if that weren't bad enough, I think I was the weakest link on all those Randomly generated teams. WTF.
So, (and don't hesitate to be brutally honest) am I just a bad Ele or is an Ele at a real disadvantage (in PvP) in general with weak armor and some slower-to-cast spells.
I know I have a lot to learn about PvP(!), but should I just consider my Ele a PvE character and create a new Character for PvP ?
Thanks to anyone who responds!

Well, can't really judge that until you post your build. Blinding flash is a must, maybe bring a few water snares as well. I feel that I am much more effective when the other team has one or two warriors or assassins.

Your build may be a reliant build. To succeed in RA you really have to have a self-sufficient build that still deals damage. It could be your build in general, your teams, or your opponents. Dont blame it on the class...please nothing's ever the classes fault.

After creating several pvp characters, I found that in fact I like my pve character, the starburst ele, the most in HA...

Eles are perfectly usable in PvP if you get over the "omgz i wanna do uber dmg" preconception. Granted they excel at doing large damage to multiple targets but you'll generally find human players aren't stupid enough to hang around in AoE. AoE is occasionally useful for things like dias maps in HA but for areas that don't make crowding an area a necessity, you'll be lucky to hit even one person let alone many.
For GvG and TA what eles are really useful for is either spiking or utility. Here's a nice anti-war / spike support build for TA (or RA) just to give you an idea.
Lightning Orb (Helps a lot if your running an adrenal spike)
Ennervating Charge (To cover blind - unless enemy is running draw conditions)
Blinding Flash (Your anti-war)
Draw Conditions (For keeping melee clean in TA - Lightning Hammer in RA)
Aura of Restoration (Nice self-heal in RA - To cover your attunements in TA)
Air Attunement
Elemental Attunement
Res Signet

Ether Prod is better than attunes in GvG maybe because the roles of players are much more widely spread. When you have to draw, spike, blind and cover Prodigy just doesnt cut it. I quite often play my own guild in TA (when we have 2 teams in there) and they know from the start to begin by removing my attunes. Even when they know our build to the letter they still have some trouble removing them.
When they use Gaze of contempt I precast *only* Aura to trick them into thinking im fully attuned to begin with. When they use drain/shatter I try to watch the mesmer as much as possible. When they do the 2 drain combo I just wait for the first to hit and recast Aura - meaning they drain Aura twice. Even if you mess up the recast you've atleast got Elemental Attunement left over. If you use a PvE character you can even switch to a Faster Skill Recharge kit for Energy Storage now that it has a linked attribute.
Ok so it sucks when you go up against a team that harrasses your attunements but covering with Aura can usually deal with everything but gaze/rend. Ether Prod just simply doesn't cut it for TA.
Btw: I posted a TA/RA build because that's what I got the impression the OP was looking for and when I mentioned AoE - I was referring back to the fact the OP stated "nuker" in his first post.
