Default Build Suggestions

When reading through these forums and from some posts that I've made in the past I find it somewhat frustrating when looking for or trying to get build advice (PvE). The vast, vast majority of build suggestions take the assumption that a person's character is level 20 and already beaten the game and unlocked all skills and elites. I understand that a person trying to make a suggestion may not completely understand what skills others may have and at what position in the game they are, but its a bit annoying to read build advice that is completely unapplicable because it makes the assumption that you can load whatever skills that are suggested.

Furthermore, a lot of people will make the assumption that you have both Prophecies and Factions as well. Does anybody else ever get a tad bit annoyed by this or is it just me?

Disclaimer: This isn't really meant to be a rant, but just a slight venting.

Well, seeing as most people get to lvl 20 in 1-2 days, and all farming/running is done at lvl 20, it's reasonable to post them all in lvl 20 range.

Pointless rant. Your mad because most builds on this forum you have to be level 20. If your not level 20, it doesnt mean you cant run them. It means you cant run them as good, but you can still run them. The only build I can think of that you are required to beat the game is solo titans build. If you dont have the required skills for a build, find a replacement skill. If you cant replace the skill, then dont run the build. Instead of ranting about how you dont have a skill, go get the skill. Its not hard. Pay 50-1000g for a normal skill, thats easy. As for capping elites, some are tricky, but none are impossible. If a build requires both Prophecies and Factions, and you need a Prophecies/Factions skill, there is nothing you can do about it.

First
Leveling your character in 1-2 days...come on! I know it is done, but unless you're a complete hardcore gaming nut that has no life then it takes quite a bit longer...even if you're on your nth character. Just my opinion though.

Second
Pointless rant? I don't feel it is since I've encountered many people during the time I've had this game that has had the same feelings as I've "ranted" about.

Obviously with only 2 replies and both being negative I see that I'm not going to really get anywhere with this thread even though I don't feel that my original statement is baseless. It's like they say, "Arguing on the internet is like playing in the special olympics. Even if you win you're still retarded."

I think you are missing a crucial point to build advice from people.

Not only is it that builds must be level 20, have all 200 points, must have basically all skills, but it is to state that these are the skills, weapons, armor, point allocation, and perhaps even the way skills are layed out that you should be gunning for.

As a player who just created a character, then asks for people opinion and advice on how to make a good character (either solo, PUG friendly, PvP, etc.). People will give advise based on their knowledge. Usually its been so long since they had a beginning character, they have forgotten what skills they had access to, and how they were able to "do well".

Trying to make a step by step build (level 1, have this, level 2 have this, etc.) is time consuming and hard to remember. Most of us like to forget our "noob" experience, and our adolesent characters.

I doubt you'll find someone taking their time to document from level 1 to level 20+ in a step by step build. I think you'll get bored after the first paragraph.

I have both, but I try to give advice on Factions only or Prophecies only. Sadly, I don't really know what if Factions only though.

But people should state that you only have Prophecies or Factions or want builds only for PvP, PvE or whatever. If these are not stated, then either no one will give advice, since they don't know what you want, or they will give advice based on what they they want (PvE, PvP, Factions & Prophecies, etc.)

Hope this helps in your understanding on advice given on builds.

You get it by sitting down and playing for about 5-7 hours each day in Factions. You can easily get to 20th level in that amount of time.

Wake up Saturday Morning around - 10 am. Play 2 hours. Eat lunch. Go outside until 5 pm. Eat supper. Play from 6 pm until 10 or 11. Sunday, wake up about 10:30 am. Play until noon. Eat lunch. Go out and play golf until 6 pm. Eat supper. Play GW until 11 pm or until level 20, whichever comes first (you should be level 20 by then )

Well, I do understand both Pick Me and Arkantos points of view. Furthermore, I agree and believe that you are both right when taking the broad spectrum of character builds into a certain perspective. Then the "majority" of players and forum users probably really don't care about sub-level 20 characters and what skills that haven't acquired yet. I suppose I was just trying to point out the unfortunate scenario of early stage users trying to get advice, but not getting reasonable advice.

So on that note I think Pick Me has articulated a very good explanation.

I know everyone hates the best build or class questions. I know there is no best but I am looking for guidance for my playing style.

I like to play solo a lot that’s the biggest issue. Second I like to be able to do melee some times at least third like to focus on just a few skills specializing and having a simple but effective playing style. I also only have factions.

Right now from the limited play time I have had I like the Assassin, ranger, and warrior for the primary job. For secondary I would like either necromancer if not good for what I want a combo of the above. Any help is appreciated I am recreational and like to get started right and just improve my character with the little time I get.

no, that would be 1 day lol

but yah, guess when you look for a build online you already should have at least lvl 20 and some elites, if yoru below 20, just my opinion, but you should be testing out stuff on your own, getting used to your char, and who knows, making a great new build to post online someday?

When you say solo, I take it, no henchies. I know some people say solo, but with henchies.

Good combos are:
Monks, Ritualists, Mesmer, and Ranger.

For the Assassin: use Monk, Ritualist, Mesmer, maybe Necromancer
Monks - hard rez, cure conditions (like blindness), remove hex, heal, protect spells

Ritualists - hard rez, cure conditions, heal, protect spells, weapon spells
Mesmers - condition spreader, health degen, stances
Ranger - Barrager, pet master, cure blindness/poison/disease, stances
Necromancer - hexes, plague sending/touch

Warrior: use Ranger, Monk, Ritualist, maybe Necromancer, Mesmer
Monk - see Assassin
Ritualist - see Assassin
Mesmer - see Assassin + Illusionary Weapon
Ranger - pet, cure blindness/poison/disease, stances, poison weapons, healing
Necromancer - see Assassin

Ranger: use Monk, Ritualist, Mesmer
Monk - see Assassin
Ritualist - see Assassin
Mesmer - see Assassin

Hope this helps.
