I wonder if anyone did my idea.. I stopped playing before i could do it tho. if ya all know about the 1.12(? or 1.11?) patch, they did add some new unique charm (something like a buffed up Annihilus) and in the first month I used to get like 10-14 requests to get the charm for some dude ^^. my smiter was the ultimate killer eh :>
i was thinking of doing one on hardcore and charge for getting the charm for the sissys (Uber Tristram > most of the players ^_^)
as for the legendary... why not get some mates to help u . uw questing or whatever floats ur boat

55 monks have nothing on d2 Exile smiters in terms of invulnerability
Uw questing would be a very good way to gain levels, though I'd say FoW simply because it's slightly safer (larger areas, no aatxes). I'm not sure if the eternal/reapers dying and killing the party strictly counts as a death, but it would be a harsh risk to run if so.

afaik, failing objectives and similar does not count as a death. at least i remember seeing so somewhere. maybe someone could try it, im trying to study right now ^_^
also, uw seems easier/safer to me (probably coz im used to 2man..). if you have buddies that can pull off decent runs, u might as well try with them. right now im trying a rather cheap build Spirit bond enables.. i wonder if thatd get nerfed
exile was that shield runeword right? i distinctly remember reaching the conclusion that grief+herald of the zakarum is the ultimate equipment, but that was a while ago ^_^
eh i do miss that lil smiter dude tho >< and my last char, the lightning ele <3

Exile for smiter > HoZ imo... selfrepair (so eth), and gives defiance aura (+200% armor or so at that level) allowing you to walk tall with some 20-30k armor. You can also get it on a shield that adds more damage. Using Pheonix as a weapon would work, can't remember grief. I just <3 my 4 or 5 ice sorcs...
Aaanyways yeah if you leech off a 2-man run, then yes it would be very safe. Taking part in a full, organized fissure run for quest xp would work very well too. I'll see if I can test the fail objectives death tomorrow.

A few days ago, I earned the Legendary Survivor title on my ele, and I have started a mesmer to do the same. I've never really played a primary mesmer before, at least beyond like level 12 or so. I have been doing quests with henches, and missions with PUGs. Yes, I know... but I always do missions with PUGs on all my characters. I have gotten to Arborstone so far, capped the elites in the missions I've done so far, and haven't logged out on any group. I would like to know your thoughts on the build I have been using, and suggest improvements.
Armor with the +HP
Domination 12+3+1
Fast Casting 6+1
Inspiration 10+1
Death 6
Insightful Staff of Fortitude +5 / +28
HSR Dom 20%
HCT Dom 20%
Wastrel's Worry
Empathy / Cry of Frustration
Power Drain
Shatter Delusions
Backfire
Power Spike / Power Return / Cap Sig
Stolen Speed / Shatter Hex
Soul Feast / Taste of Death
My basic plan of attack has been to Backfire + WW + SD + WW the monk, then target an ele or other threat and use Stolen Speed and interrupt when possible. Sometimes, I'll try interrupting the monk, but I figure I'd rather prevent the ele's spells from going though, since the monk will be taking damage from casting and not damaging my team. Occasionally, I'll throw empathy on a warrior or assassin attacking our casters, but I focus on their casters. When I got CoF, I replaced Empathy, as it interrupts more than just spells, but now I'm useless against melee (almost), but I guess that's ok. I was using Shatter Hex on our melee's for extra damage (which is always fun) or for self-preservation. On the island, I was using Ether Feast and Soul Feast, but as I progressed, I reduced my healing to one slot. I think Soul Feast is a bigger heal and shorter cast, so I used that. Then, I was looking through necro self-heals, and lo and behold I found Taste of Death. I also have an MM, so I knew about it, just never really thought about using it with my other chars. I find it to be quite a cheap spike heal, with very little investment in Death. I'm not sure how you guys might feel about this, and I want your thoughts, but when I do missions with a MM, I bring ToD, and when there is no MM, I use SF. Do you think it's wrong to use ToD on someone else's minions ? I'm not looking for a maxed out heal that will kill off the minion, but if I keep death no higher than 6, it will only be 220, which is a good quick spike heal, but only takes about half of the minion's health. Honestly, I've been carrying it, but I've only used it once, and that was by accidentally hitting the wrong key. I've not been under so much attack (because my health is over 500 ?) that I've needed self-healing.
So, again, I'm new as a mesmer, and I am looking for suggestions. I have read the posts about Distortion, but I haven't really been under attack, so I've left it off.
I'm not going to leech off of UW 2-man runs, or go for powerlevelling for the xp. I plan to do missions and repeatable quests for the lion's share of what I need. So far, I'm at about 200k.
Thanks.

Ima trying for the same thing. My little Nythania is about 40k xp away from the second tier, now.. thats, ah, four elites to cap till I've got it. D:
Some people may think this is lame/cheating/not what the titles about/whatever. Shes a canthan mesmer, I got her off nub island, into LA, and a friend ran me to the desert. He helped me ascend too. Got to thk, he helped me do thk. First two rof missions, etc. Id suggest making yourself a friend who can help you out with a mission you feel uneasy about or something.. and as was already mentioned WATCH OUT FOR THOSE NUB AFFLICTED D: << Ive almost kaboomed due to them many times. A friend can help in any case because sometimes its a pain aggroing things so they attack henchies and not you... or maybe im just a nub.
As for a main source of xp, skill capping. Im sure theres a fool proof way to mesmer farm somewhere but Im too chicken to try them... and in the end, you will hopefully have your legendary survivor with tuns of elites capped. Yay!? Id certainly stop off in tyria for ascension and the skills. Perdition is a lovely little place if you take it carefully, two or three skills per profession and such. The 50k from ascending is nice too. However, those canthan xp rewards for quests are hard to resist :P I eventually migrated over there when I got a bit bored with capping Tyrian warrior and ranger elites. :|
Heres a tip that may or may not mean a thing to you: Ive ragequitted'd on the game when a quest went bad or whatever and .. .. I didnt want to die. In some missions, too; always with friends who knew ahead of time, or henches. If you do attempt to do Viznuh, and are afraid of getting caught with another real group that may either be the death of you or rage at you if you ragequit in favor of life; you could try to do what my genius guildie suggested.. Have a friend enter the mission in the other quarter at the same time as you. I swear I dunno why I didnt think of that for all the time I was pouting over it.
Last thing! If I didnt like necs before I certainly dont now, while doing Nahpui, in my neverending battle with warrior hench AI and aggroing policies, I MEAN IT those little turtle celestial things would come LOOKING for me to grenths balance spam at me D:<. No, really. Id watch as they moved past the warrior lines and come charging tword me. I think I took like, 70 percent of the grenth' balances'es when I was waaaay back in the line with all the monklets. (well, you know, more or less.. im only being a little bit dramatic) I was getting rather nervous. :P
Goodluck.

I'm about 70k xp from level 2 survivor, and I have gone dom, interupts, diversion etc, all the way, in other words, my standard mesmer builds. What I have not done however, is skimped on health. Starting in cantha and then working down through the kurzick side, I did the following:
I used masquerade armor from top to bottom, superior vigor, and +60 health added from an offhand and a +5 sword with 30 health. I have not used any +attribute runes over a minor. I have done every quest from start to where I currently am in the game, and have spent most of the time with henchies, including arborstone. I have not capped elites outside of my classes primary, and am just about to do unwaking waters.
I have logged out once, and this was when we were on the tyrian side, getting a run to the southern shiverpeaks, an idiot in the group aggroed a mob and then drug them back to the place where the passengers were waiting. I was pissed, so I logged out rather than deal with it. Aside from this however, it has all been rather dandy.
And.. to the above poster.. your math is wrong. 4 elites at 5k xp per, equals 20k. You are 8 elite caps away from it, at 40k distance.
