I have bad news for you; Trolls have their ears only to listen to themselves. Your words are nothing but food to them.

I chestrun in witmans folly (quick golds, I sell for identify) with germans, and they use /roll 100 to determine who opens the chest. works too.

I been doing chest runs and any type of run ever since drok runs started, so I hardly ever die. I guess I can say that I'm an experienced runner ^^. Funny thing is that I'm almost *always* the first person to open a chest since every1 is just sitting there and waiting for someone else to open it instead because they're afraid to lose their keys...

People wait for one person to open the chest-if it has purple items, most of the people won't "waste" a key on that chest.

Myswheels made the thread to lay down the basics and give people a little insight. You want to add something, add more information. Not "omg i tell me how i eat a bannana".
Congratulations you're a chump, and you dont know everything, there comes a time when you'll be curious on a topic you have no knowledge about. And you want to read up on that and read information, not page after page of children talking smack aruging "batman can beat spiderman"
What about the kiting thread, it was about kiting, thanks to whoever made that. many of us know it already, some dont, we dont need dorks saying "durr of course you run away from tanks"
Thank you Myswheel for making a thread on a now popular form of farming and title gaining.

Awww...
Maybe he should have posted this in the Farming forum then, just a thought.

Sure, I'll take you on. I solo chest run FoW all the time. I'm also always the last one alive when I go in a group. Over 300 chest runs in FoW and counting.
You do make some very good points, though. Knowing the mobs is a key to success in a chest run. I usually run FoW with a R/Mo yet somehow I outlive the wamos. Maybe something to do with them running wrecklessly into skeleton armies. Or when I tell them that a certain chest inside the wailing forest 2nd entrace is a chest of death and they go for it anyway then expect me to rez them.
To all would be chest runners: The agro bubble is your friend. Keep enemies out of when possible.

Leeching is when you don't do anything for the group, but still get the reward. Thus you "leeched" off of the groups efforts.
In Chest Runs, it means you never open any chest until its confirmed to be a gold chest. Thus you "leeched" off the group by never having to risk wasting your keys on purple chests.
I'll explain the gold chest purple chest thing more...When you Spawn into an instance, chest positions and chest contents are determined at that time. Its either marked a "Purple Chest" or a "Gold Chest". That means EVERY ITEM that chest gives to anyone in your party is either always purple, or always gold. So one person in the party has to "Risk" a key to open the chest to see if its purple or gold. If its purple noone has opens the chest and he wasted a key (because purples suck), but if its gold, then the rest of the party will take turns opening it.

I'd like to add a couple things..
First of all, with the usage of /roll 100. This is fine really, BUT there should be a general conditional. Out of a party of 8, if one person has already opened a chest, they should be exempt from further rolls. There are no areas in which chest running is popular where you will encounter more than 8 chests, so it is not fair for those unlucky saps that seem to roll 8 and below every time. (I see this way too often.)
Also, in relation to Raisu Palace, where the leeching is ridiculous and the unknowledgeable runners abound, it is, in my experience much more conducive to full party survival to take Wary Stance. Aggro is drug from one side of the map to the other because of Debilitating Shot. Utilize your full skill list, and take something that PREVENTS you from sitting on 0 energy, hence dragging aggro to your fellow runners.

Opening a chest first often means you get your gold first with no problems, and even though you may die, you don't have to worry about someone stealing your drop, and you don't have to slowly die watching the words "someone else is using this chest" only to open the chest right as your health drops to zero.
The most annoying thing is groups who don't resurrect people, or leave you if you try to resurrect someone. I'll admit, I don't go out of my way to resurrect someone if I know it's gonna make us both die, or if they died at the beginning of the run where nobody with any running skills at all should die. Other than that, I always try to res people. This problem seems to be most common in fissure of woe, because there are few spots where you can't wait for the patrol to move and resurrect someone, but most chest runners there are selfish.

I'll admit that I try not to open chests first, but I generally check at least 1 chest during a Raisu run. However, something that really irritates me is when people stop after a run thru enemies and there is a chest nearby and they start to heal- then some idiot aggros all of the surrounding teammates in order to get them to move and open a chest.

I Chest run alot, and i think this guide is very good for newbies, wanting to learn to chest run, i ussually use the same build for every run, unless i run solo, i take out res and put in another skill, i'm ussualy the last person left when i go chest running, and i always help out the newbies, and always try and res, if you res people, they tend to chat to you, then you become ingame friends, then you have a chest running partner, it helps alot running with someone you 'know' as you are more likely to be ressed, and you can have a laugh on the way. and chest runs become more fun, even if you get a few grape.

I don't think theres ettiquite to chest running...
Its a cheap way of farming and the people who do it can act as cheap, rude, disrespectful as they want.
I've run chests only during the double gold weekend...

I ussually chest run with 'Crazy Germans'. When we run we always use the /roll 100 command. Whoever gets the lowest number opens the chest. Only problem is when someone doesnt roll the 'Crazy Germans' run around the chest dying. Its so very funny to watch.

as someone else said, do it with people you know. there are far too many idiots out there. if you find people who are good at chest running, it is usually very easy to make friends with them and do it on a regular basis. provided youre pretty good, yourself.

Until the guy you casted recall on runs into a big mob and gets killed, then pulls you to death with him..
I don't get why people are scared to open chests...just about equal chance of getting that 100k+XX ecto drop as waiting for another person to open it..

Just to correct you, it isnt possible to get a 7-14 axe... the max is 6-28, so it cannot exceed 6. :P

I think that anet should make the best drop be the first drop out of a chest. so that there is some kind of insentive to open a chest first, even if it might be a purp there is still a better chance to score a req 8 gold chaos axe if you opened first.
