do you have to cast this RIGHT when some mob is casting of before or after? i have a e/me and ive had mesmers in the past and this spell and power spike have always given me trouble on when to cast them. i just want to know before i go and get this spell and use it.

Yes, you use this as an enemy is casting a spell. If you do it before or after, nothing happens.

It's like power spike, except instead of damaging the enemy, they lose energy. Which is worse depends on the situation. You have to nail them in the middle of a cast time, which means without a skill such as Arcane Conundrum, it will be very hard to hit spells with short casting times like Orison of Healing and the like.

Conundrum, then spike, then leak when they try to heal themselves.

when vassar or whatever his name is offers to teach me this in return for slaying the gargoyle, the other choice is "perhaps I do not want to be a mesmer."
If I complete this quest am I locked into mesmer as secondary? I like switching around, and I would like to lean this skill, but do not want to commit to mesmer...

He asks you if you want to be a mesmer, and after you finish his quest he will give you the option to be one as secondary.

Power Leak is debatable on an actual E-denial Mesmer...Since how much it does is limited because you've drained most of their energy..
I personally use Power Drain as the interupt if I have room for one..You are already draining their energy..You need some of your own

Once you have chosen your Secondary Profession, you wont be able to switch around until you have been ascended and have done "Profession Path" quests in the Crystal Desert.
Alternatively if you own Factions, you can progress your way to Senji's Corner, or travel to the Great Temple of Balthazar.

I agree, though I only dropped it after I got Power Block (I was already using Drain at the time though). It was useful as an interrupt regardless of its other effects.
