Default Just started. Need suggestions for secondary class

Hi. Just started. What is a good secondary class to pick given that I want to do PvE (and probably do more solo PvE). Looking for something fun and quick.

^ Get a monk secondary then. You'll really only need a hard rez (rebirth!) while doing your normal PvE, and there are some easy solo builds you can run as well with a R/Mo.

R/Mo is prob the best for PvE. A good Barrage/Pet build is always fun and you can do 4 or 5 man Oro runs and other farming.

Theres a good thread on here with a R/Me solo FoW build too. I have been playing with this lately and it's really cool.

Let me know if you need any help getting set up. I have been playing my Ranger a lot lately.

That's a bit advanced for a "just started"! Give it a month or two to settle into the game and come back to this stuff.

I'd recommend Monk first for their condition/hex cures and rez spells. I'd stick to ranger healing in Wilderness Survival for actual healing though... Troll Unguent and Healing Spring. Some of the Monk's smite skills are ok too in certain situations... Judge's Insight being the main one. This is the most forgiving secondary to have.

I can recommend Ritualist for the ability to revive dead party members faster than monks, and some of their weapon spells and spirits are quite useful to a ranger too.

You might also consider Mesmer for their myriad stances and curious flavour of magic. You can't go wrong with +10AL 'while in a stance' armour as a R/Me and they're quite common - R/Me trappers are an old favourite I think the R/Me is a bit more challenging, but that's not a bad thing - my first character was a Necromancer/Warrior and I just learned how to survive as one

Good luck

I have a R/Mo for the condition removal and hard rez (rebirth, resurrection chant, resurrect, etc.).

Cirian is correct, point points into Wilderness Survival for your healing abilities. When you get the skill Melandru's Resilience (elite), you'll see a lot of healing when you get conditions and hexes on you.

R/Me is also a good start. You can apply conditions (from poison - start, to bleeding - a little later on) and have monsters take additional damage or spread the condition to other monsters (fragility - damage; epidemic - spread).

This combination is also good for interputing skills and spells from the enemy.

Ritualists are also okay as well. Cast a few spirits (ranger ones) and then cast Mend By and Soul, and poof, conditions are removed (1 condition removed per spirit in the area).

Warriors have nice shouts, but you would need to put points into Tactics, so it may not be that beneficial to you.

Whatever you decide is up to you, so good luck and enjoy. FYI, my first character is W/R.

Agreed, monk is an excellent choice for a ranger. Even if you use nothing but ranger skills, the rez spell will come in handy.

For starting out? As in pre-sear? Illusion magic is just way too powerful in pre-sear, R/Me all the way. Just bring a res sig everywhere you go and you'll be fine.

Everything is too powerfull in pre-searing - firestorm doesn't make foes run for example

But if you want a ranger in pre-searin: do it the fun way I say: solo the Northlands including the 4 bosses with ranger skills only (well that's 7 skills as there are only 8 skills, including 2 preps).

But I gues the OP doesn't mean to stay in pre

i havent played a ranger yet (actually trying to find similar info)

but it seems so far, that the most versatile is R/Me as far as different choices in your build...

My advice is just to pick a secondary class you havent tried yet, and go from there....

Im still convinced that a R/E would be very powerful too...
