Each class has a primary attribute that only players that choose that class as their primary have access too.
A monks primary attribute is Divine Favor, which helps in the healing of allies.
An assassins primary attribute is Critical Strikes, which increases the likelyhood of inflicting a critical, as well as gaining energy per crit.
by looking at those two primary attributes, it's rather easy to see which class is best suited for damage.
In general Monks heal and protect allies. Assassins usually deal quick bursts of damage.
Any Mo/A's you see are almost surely using skills such as Return and Dark Escape from the assassin skill line to further protect themselves.
