There is support smiting. But that won't exactly get you into groups.

Smiting is good in PvP.

Well, it can be good, but it's not the most common role for a monk in PvP. The direct damage smiting skills have limited use due to high cost and recharge, so most PvP smiting is centered around smiting off a mobile allied target (usually warriors) with ZB and BA. Since both of the latter skills have been nerfed, smiting is not as attractive as it once was.

Generally, a monk is going to provide healing, protection, or both. There are plenty of builds posted in this forum. Just run a quick search and you'll turn up some builds. NOTE: Disregard any non-farming build that has "Healing Breeze" as one of its skills.

singram just to point out a slight flaw in your thinking. You say '"some monks" when in truth pretty much every monk uses healing and/or protection. I use smiting often, but only with heroes and hench. I think you wanting a monk for damage is simply for the purpose of trying to be different. Truth is in human groups in PvE they will expect you to be healing and/or protection. In human group PvE monks aren't needed as damage dealers when you have other professions with far more ranged skills at their disposal.

If you don't want to heal and buff, the monk class isn't for you.
Agreed, you CAN smite, but you're not likely to get into groups that way. In PvE that is, and I can imagine you would start with that seeing as you're new to this game.

The damage output of smiting isn't typicly as other classes. Every good smiting build I can think of invloves some sort of support anyways.
