This spell has suffered from the new AoE AI changes, making it somewhat ineffective now.

My W/N char would try to clump a group of enemies together, cast this on a central target and then use Flurry to whip out damage quickly. The idea being that little damage is done to the target so that Mark of Pain can dish out damage longer to surrounding enemies.

But.... now that they run and flee to get clear of the effect, you'll only get a limited amount of this bonus damage out. Still useful to a small extent, but certainly not as devestating against swarms as it used to be.

I've always found this to be of little use in PvP

Default Mark of Pain + Price of Failure?

I was just wondering if somebody knew whether the damage caused by mark of pain is physical, cold, or what. The idea was to have these skills together, cast price of failure on one dude, then cast mark of pain. if the damage he/she takes from missing with PoF is physical, in theory, other enemies that are close would take damage from mark of pain. i would try it myself but the only necro i have is lvl 4 right now.

Price of Failure and MoP are both generic unconditional damage, and so cause no triggers
