This is a very interesting skill--now that I think about it, isn't it almost like Illusionary Weaponry?

Almost - but, IW makes your weapon deal 0 damage, and is single target damage. Mark of Pain still lets your weapon deal damage, is a hex, not an enchantment, and only deals damage to foes _surrounding_ your target, and doesn't do any damage to your current target. However, this skill is still very useful when you have tons of minions dealing rapid-fire physical damage to a target. Since the damage being dealt is in many small, fast punches, you're likely to take down everything around your target before your target dies (unless your party attacks your target)

Where can one find this skill... I realized I don't have it on my character and I would really like to have it.

Adjacent really isn't quite descriptive enough. Basically if your enemies aren't literally right next to the target you cast this upon, no damage reaches them. It's kind of annoying since almost every other AoE in our lineup has a bit more range.

Yes this is a VERY good skill and won thunderhead keep for us today especially since we had a monk with heal area that could heal my minions between battles and then the taem could take out small clusters of guys alone and large cluststers was very easy as mark of pain dealed 36 damage PER bone minion/fiend attacking taht one guy which i ahd about 10 fiends attacking each time. about 360 damage to each guy except the guy you attacking it was very swoot. we finished thunderhead keep even tho one guy left at end and not a single one of us died ever.

I enjoy using this on my Wa/Ne right before Cyclone Axe.

Though Hundred Blades would be even better...

but cyclone axe has better range since it hits ppl in the back as well rather than 100 blades wich is just the front.

yeah I wanted to like swords after I got 100blades I really did..
but cyclone axe > hundred blades IMO and not an elite

I wondered what the bugging was about that being elite.. and it's true..
100blades should not be elite but was made so due to IW
[why not just make it fail to work with IW/non-melee attk/non-phy dmg rather than make it elite]

Indeed. One of my favorite combos for big groups: Mark of Pain, a godly pet, Tiger's Fury, and a good shortbow

How does this work if you cast it on person A, B and C? (provided that they are in a group standing close to each other of course)

Does it work like this?
Hit person A, which triggers MoP on B (and C), which triggers MoP on A and C, etc.

MoP is only triggered by physical damage, but deals out shadow damage. So it would not trigger itself if you were able to cast it on more than one enemy at a time.

That makes sense. It would have been too good to be true.
Thanks for the answer!

So that leaves spiteful, feast of corruption, desecrate enchantment, suffering, rotting flesh, wait a sec...there are a lot of other AoE skills for a necro available!!

But yeah, I agree, making monsters run out of a MoP is, well not really funny.
