Hotkey for Monking, best and most effective?
I just started doing GvG with my monk, I usaly run a Blight Escape, but I seem to be having some trouble.
I have my main 3 skills(Gift of Health, Blight and reversal) as 1,2 and 3. I usaly keep my figures on them and hit it when I need to. But skills like Mend Condition, and Spirit bond at around 5 and 6, and i cant seem to get to it fast enough. Also sometimes I run Infuse, and im not really use to hiting the right button.
I was wondering if any monk, or anyone has any suggestions. Im pretty sure im not the only one having problem with all the hotkeys and button smashing.
Any tips?

Since they skills are default to the number key above the keyboard I tend to put the most important spells near the front of my skill bar and the least used ones in the back since my hand is naturally near #s 1-3 when I move my character. I tend to find it easiest to put my "zOMG quick use this skill to save their ass* skill in slot 2 since it's the easiest and quickest to hit and put the most conditional stuff at the end (my rez is always in skill slot 8).
Assigning party members to the numberpad on the right is also a good way to give quick access to party members as well, but it takes some getting used to in order to get comfortable with using it.

Blight huh, well here's my setup for Monking.
1.Reversal of Fortune
2.Gift of Health
3.Dismiss Conditions
4.Blessed Light
5.Spirit Bond/Protective Spirit
6.Signet of Devotion
I swaped my 7 for Q and my 8 for E, that way I have a good control over my skillbar.
So ~
Q. Return
E. Dark Escape
When swapping builds, try placing the the same spells in the same slot, that way you won't get them mixed up too much. Good luck.

My main tip to you is to just practice. It doesn't even matter where. Go play a few hours in RA until you don't even have to think about which buttons to hit.
I think many players (myself included) place too much emphasis on control configuration. The reality is that once you've played with it long enough that it all becomes muscle memory, your exact scheme no longer really matters.
If you have any additional mouse buttons, consider mapping Infuse Health to one of them.
Infuse Health, RoF, and Prot Spirit/Spirit Bond/Shield of Absorption are your 'twitch' skills and need to be assigned to your 'fastest' buttons (typically 2, 3, 4 assuming normal hand positioning on a QWERTY keyboard). Blight, GoH, and Mend/Dismiss usually aren't as time-critical.

Apart from actual key binds, I'd recommend putting skills with similar effects in the same skillslot on every build you make. For instance, put your "spike" heal (WoH, ZB, Infuse, whatever) in the same spot everytime so you don't have to think about which key to press when you're in the heat of the moment. Same goes for hex removal, condition removal, emanagement, etc.

Personally I use my key skills around my middle finger and ring finger are so my pinkie hits my 1 key on my left hand when I need it for A reversal or orison or something.Try to figure out where your hand usaully is in a Pvp situation and work from there.

zxcv: left, right, forward, backward
y: auto run
caps lock: target closest
tab: target next
hand positioning:
left on asdf (same position as typing with 10 fingers)
right on mouse.

Some very Interesting setups Thanks alot for the advice.
one thing for sure is to keep the skill lineup the same for each build. I general try to do that.
What im doing now which works is have "`"(the one left of 1) be my quick spell, like infuse/Ps/sb/soa. It works well becuase my fingures are always there. only problem is im still use to that being my chat, and sometimes i hit it when i dont need to. :P but im getting alot better.
Any more suggestions and that would rock!

Switched the left and right arrows to side step, don't really use the a/d to spin in circles.
left hand on the 1-8 buttons for skills......right hand on the arrow keys, within reach of the numpad for party member assignment.

ahhh i'm having the same problem. unfortunately years and years of FPS' have me practically *living* WSAD. so changing the movement keys or resting my right hand on the keyboard is a huuuge no >_< i can't seem to think of a convenient way to bind target item/nearest ally/nearest foe/cycle foe, ALONG with hotkeys for teammates 1-8(or 9 >_>) while making skills 5-8 more easily accessible considering my wsad hand does not naturally move much past the far end of the spacebar...
anyone happen to have been in the EXACT same position? >_< ive tried messing with the party window and that has helped but at the expense of my visibility... bah :P what's sacrifice-worthy? i'd hate to cut out all the nifty window shortcuts but it's looking that way.

my setup is pretty wacky as well:
1234 : skills 1 - 4
wrs and TAB : skills 5 - 8
q and e : target previous and next
a and d : strafe
x : move backward
z : cancel action
everything else : mouse
i used to play D2 quite a bit back in the day, so the transition back to click movement was pretty easy.

<- harcore fps nut, back in the day
I too exclusively use the WASD controls for movement.. this is what I did.
Space - Nearest Ally
C - Closest enemy (default)
Tab -Default
D and A are set to turn, not strafe.. I hold the right mouse button to strafe in combo with these keys
R - Target Self
T - Autorun (pve lol)
Numbers 1-4 = Skills 1-4
F - Skill #5
E - Skill #6
Q - Skill #7
Shift - Skill #8
Page Down - Supress (for heroes)
` - Cancel
Num 8 - Previous Ally
Num 9 - Next Ally
Num 7 - Party member 1
Num 4 - Party member 4
Num 1 -Party member 8
Shift and F I find using for my most important skills, with 2 and 3 coming close behind. I use the number pad like I do, because it just seems akward to me to have a key for each ally, and try to remember who is who. With 7,4 and 1, you can quickly get close to your ally, and use 8 and 9 to target them. Obviously other people may disagree with me, but that's what I do.
One advantage I find in using WASD for movement, is that your mouse is basically free now. If it feels more natural to you, you can use it to select people in the party window, while simultaniously kiting and whatnot.
Took me a bit to get used to, but everything else just seems so akward now. I also agree with running similar skill orders on all your characters, it helps tons.
Hope this will work out for you FPS junkies.

I use a five button mouse, and my 7 and 8 slots are bound to the side buttons of the mouse.
This way I put my most frequently used skills in the first slots, skills that need a good timing on slot number 7 and 8 (spike heals, interrupts as a mesmer, frenzy and cancel stance as a warrior). Slots 5 and 6 are the most difficult to reach, so I put conditionnal or tool skills there.
Thanks to previous posts i'm thinking of binding 5 and 6 spots to Q and E...

I also played FPS for years and what I find that works the best is to
Q-Target Previous
E-Target Next
I still use WASD for movement and hold right click to strafe.
for skills 1-5 I use with my left hand and for 6-8 I place skills used the least often or the ones that require the slowest reactions. I hit 6,7 and 8 with click most of the time or look at the keyboard quickly to hit the key.
It might also help that I'm left handed :P
