Solo Black Moa Cap Build
I just capped myself a Black Moa for one of my rangers the other night and thought I would share the build I used for anyone interested in doing the same.
If you try capping the Black Moa when you have hench in your party, they will kill it during the capping process since it turns hostile. Therefore build I used was a running build.
Attributes:
8 in healing prayers with the rest of the attributes in Wilderness survival and Expertise.
Skills:
Escape {E}
Storm Chaser
Dodge
Purge Conditions
Smite Hex
Troll Unguent
Mending
Charm Animal
Use and tips:
First of all, pick up 'The Beak of Darkness' quest from House Zu Heltzer. Second of all make sure you drop your old pet. To do this there is an NPC outside House Zu Helter named Zarek the Tamer that can take your old pet if you need. After this you are ready to run. The quest will have you run to several NPCs around Kurzick territory. After you talk to them you will finally be lead to where the Black Moa is.
When running you should keep Mending on you for most of the time. However if you are about to run through a group that has a Warden of the Mind, you should drop the enchantment since they will shatter it immediately and cause you damage. Activating Troll Unguent before you go through these groups will help keep you alive. When you do run past these groups, keep an eye out for Wardens of the Branch and keep a safe distance from these enemies. If you get too close they will use 'None Shall Pass' and knock you down.
When there are not any enemies around use Storm Chaser and allow your other running skills to be saved for when you go through batches of enemies. When running through Dredge groups it is especially important to use either Dodge or Escape since they can tear you up quickly. Normally they will drop snare traps so Purge Conditions should be used when you are almost past them so that you can remove all conditions and be out of range of other traps.
Mantid groups should be avoided as much as possible. These groups will slow you down and cause a lot of degen in a short time from hexes. When you do finish running past these groups, assuming you must, Smite Hex is a quick save if your health is still dropping fast. It also serves to take out Crippling Anguish if it gets cast on you.
Above all else avoid enemy aggro as much as possible.
When you finally reach the Black Moa there will be several patrols nearby. Stand back and watch their patterns to find when the Moa is alone. When this moment comes, use Dodge and start casting Charm Animal as quickly as possible. As soon as you get in range of the Black Moa, he will become aggressive and a group of Oni will also appear. Ignore all else and just keep Charm Animal going until you have capped your Black Moa. You will likely die shortly after, but as long as you cap him it doesn't matter.
Hopefully this will help anyone who wishes to get themselves a Black Moa but doesn't have a full group of human allies to go with them to help cap one. If anyone has done this sort of run before and has any additional tips or knows a more efficient way to do so, please share. Thanks.

This is nice if you're completely alone, however if you have even one other player character, you can cap the Moa with henchies. You just clear out the area and then have the other player lead the henchies off back the way you came so that they're far enough away they don't have a hope of hurting your Moa.
Most people assume you need a full group of humans, but you only need one other besides yourself.

I believe i started at Lutgardis Conversatory to cap the bird, not really sure though. It was a very short walk.
But for the charm, take a full group of hencies. Attack a mob, hencies attack and are busy, charm the bird.
That is how i charm my animals.

Cyan actually summed it up best...you only need 2 skills for it, really. i did it as mo/r
do the quest
go to the aspenwood gate
go to ferndale, run through the first group with escape/dodge/whatever else
ALT area to find moa
cap moa
yay
-_- really, it wasnt hard ;/ plus, i didnt find any onis either. if you know the location well you can just wait til the moa moves somewhere else. the only problem can be the patrol of dredge which will eventually kill you and the moa while capping if you end in the patrol, but again, sit down and watch the patrol pattern and you wont have any problems. works with hench as well, lure them into a group, and watch them die for you while capping. if you still cant manage it, bring a friend. <.<
oh, btw, in case you didnt know. there are endless moas in ferndale, after you finished the quest. you dont need to cap that one from the quest. =p

Steps for capping black moa:
1. Initiate painstakingly long quest from House Zu Heltzer
2. Run everywhere until you get the part that says go back to where you started (Ferndale)
3. Grab henchies and run towards the area with the moa
4. Use Ctrl. + shift + space to send henchies attacking the baddies in the area
5. Run over to black moa and charm.
It's very simple, and you actually don't need any skills or anything. Just go where you need to be, use the henchies as a meat shield, and cast. Easy as pie.

Easier steps:
1. get the quest from rutger zu heltzer
2. get run or run yourself to Aspenwood gate(kurzick)
3. get a guildy who finished the quest already to zone with you into ferndale
4. rezone until you get the moa by itself without a mob around it
5. charm it
6. gg
::note:: You do not need to talk to all 3 guys located in the far corners of the freakin forest, all you need to do is to kill/charm the moa. If you have a guildy who already finished the quest(and thus will spawn a moa), you just need to charm it to finish the quest, get a moa, and get the reward from rutger zu heltzer...

The Black Moa is an Elder/unevolved pet. As such, the only way your white tiger would have more HP than it is if your tiger had been a Hearty one. If your previous pet was Elder or Dire, then the new one dying faster is most likely due to a change in play-style, as many things can affect how quickly your pet dies. It's HP alone really has little impact.

I think a couple people here have assumed that I imply to believe that this quest is hard. It really isn't tough, but my point was that instead of grinding through the forest to each of the NPCs to do the quest, you can actually just run it. There are as always, more than one way to skin a cat, and I appreciate others sharing their advice useful ways to cap a Black Moa.
As for the questions about the Black Moa itself, I think Jenosavel did a good job of summing it up, but there is also a useful page at www.GuildWiki.org that tells about the Black Moa and the quest to get it. http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Black_Moa

Here's my solo Warthog cap build, didn't want to start a new thread about it.
R/XX
Beast Mastery: 12 + 1 +3 (can be done without runes)
Expertise: 12 (to reduce energy cost)
Wilderness Survival: 3 (just to spend points)
Charm Animal
Go out of the Wilds, and then press Alt. You should see a Warthog. Walk towards it, and use Charm Animal as soon as you are in range.
10 seconds later, you should be a proud owner of a unevolved level 5 warthog.
Or maybe it was level 3, I forgot.

Yeah as other people said you can just start casting charm and then (while casting) use SHIFT+CTRL+SPACE to make your henchies attack another target.
On a side-note: you're still able to cap a Moa after you have completed the quest (the Beak of Darkness). The Black Mao will respawn at the very same place. However I must say during all my trip in Ferndale outside Aspenwood, I've seen a Black Moa only 2 times maybe, which may me thing the dredges may kill it when they come across.

ok, after people have ressurected a 4 month old thread people are still repeating what others have said many times now. Yes you can fight through the whole thing with henchies and just get them to attack another target, but the whole reason I made this thread in the first place was to show that you can just run it, which imo was faster and easier.
