3.) Focused Shot
4.) Spike Trap {E} / Barbed Trap
5.) Dust Trap
6.) Watch Yoursef
7.) Whirling Defenses / Escape {E}

Hardly a powerhouse build, but I really like Focused shot.

Dual Shot + Ignite Arrows was fun for me before I got Barrage. You can also go Trapper or use Preparations & Stances while spamming a Peneterating & Sundering shots.

If you have factions, get Broad Head Arrow.
Dazed caster opponents are afways fun and you can shut the enemy monk down with just one shot.
Furthermore, Trapper is a nice way to go.
Never tried beastmaster, entirely different, but could also be fun.

Dual Shot
Poison arrow
Kindle Arrow (or Ignite if you like AoE scatter )
Savage Shot
WD
Troll
Optional (throw dirt/distracting)
Rez
Chocking Gaz may be fun where foes are packed:
Poison arrow
Chocking Gaz
Savage
Distracting (or another skill: 2 interupts + CG is not that needed in PvE)
Arcane Mimicry (take a prophecy hench ranger with you: they have practiced stance)
WD
Troll
Rez
-> you can even bring frenzy or flurry.
Touchies do a nice job in PvE too.
You don't like barrage, but maybe you'll like the frenzy variation:
Barrage
Savage
Frenzy
WD
Another stance here would be nice, with a "low" recharge time (for rangers - dodge for ex)
Troll
Optional
Rez
... and all the builds quoted above

I use a variant of power's build..
Quick Shot{E}
Needling Shot
Troll Unguent
Frenzy
Dual Shot
Kindle Arrows
Marauder's Shot
Rez Sig
Alternatively you can ditch the wilderness, (16 marksman, 13 expertise).. probably less damage to casters though.
Quick Shot {E}
Needling Shot
Read the Wind
Frenzy
Marauder's Shot
Power/Focused/Penetrating Shot
(open)
Res Sig
Great thing about the first build is the versatility it gives your ranger.. you can self heal, bring healing spring, even trap.. I'll take Dust Trap or Barbed Trap often, and you don't decrease the core of your build. I always thought it was just awesome how you have 4 skills that require no attributes to be effective in it.. I usually will run 12 marksman, 13 expertise, and 12 wilderness.. or 11 wilderness and 13 marksman.
The second build obviously uses RtW as a prep.. which is tacked on to your base damage. It's easier to get around things like shielding hands, and you do more damage to higher AL targets, especially with 16 marksman. Also, as the wiki points out, RtW gives you much more freedom on bow choice, better chance to hit moving targets, etc..
Best part is.. with frenzy, all you have to do is activate it and attack.. you're back at full energy. XD
Needling shot, really, is just overkill. In PvE, you can still take out targets very quickly with Frenzy->Dual Shot->Quick Shot->2nd attack->regular hit-> Quickshot.
If you use Marauder's shot.. (why wouldn't you?? ) .. try using it as your first attack if you are taking an IAS, because it will be disabled by the skill. In this way, your IAS will be recharged in time to apply it again. I think it's fairly obvious a zealous string is the number one choice here.
Hmm anyways.. trappers are fun.. beastmasters too, nothing like a remote control warrior. No deep wound though. =(
Maybe take mesmer secondary and spec in illusion for Phantom Pain to add some hurt to your pet skills?
