I think that'll be the biggest downfall to the AoE update,SS was/is a staple of the Necro build in alot of cases in PvE,hopefully PuG groups will still see its usefullness and not be totally turned off to its aggrivating attributes now.Even though monster AI has been changed to scatter from ALL AoE dmg,i fear that SS in a PuG group will be especially targeted.

As far as this being a team game I agree partially in that statement, altough the day I got Kanaxis Axe and unfortunately died while Biping a monk to keep HIM alive and juiced and lost the axe because noone would rez me,I've kinda lost faith in the whole "teamplay" mojo..and yes they let me sit there on the ground on purpose until the axe became available even after saying they would pick it up and give it to me...I've kinda lost faith in fairplay and the whole ,"this is a team game" statement, maybe in PvP this is true but in the PvE setting, its really every person for themselves unless you travel exclusively with guildmates...I prefer farming solo or henching.

Im really hoping that some nice new Soul Reaping Skills are introduced into Nightfall that decimate everything..until them I'll still farm UW and whatever else.

I have SS on my mo/n...more difficult but it's doable.

And about style of play, it does seem funny that GW team play involves the use of Heroes which are fully controllable by a single player...It's almost like Baldur's Gate online all I need now is the pause button! :S

Sad thing is now I can't finish my two-man UW clearing run! heh.

May I ask which axe you use? I see you only have 44hp. This axe must give you -10hp.

Its the deep wound from the aataxes gashing that lowers his hp to 44.

But w/e...TOO SLOW and boring. Its as good as dead even if it still works. But GJ though.

OK, first off, read the thread. SS is still very usable in PvE( see video and screenshots in this thread)

And secondly, SS should have been nerfed a long time ago with the first AoE scatter update. Just because SS was your favorite skill, as well as many other peoples, I'm sick of hearing people say that they are going to stop playing and that this game is ruined...blah blah balh...because they can't use one skill. That is just rediculous. Just find your own builds and use another one of the other hundreds of skills instead.

Got problems with dying nightmares. I hate them! I'll try it now with longbow to pull aatxes.

I have still been farming in all the place I always have and have not had a problem. And unless they nerfed SS this morning I have not noticed any differance in the way it effects monsters. They do not scatter when I through it on them and I am still pulling off 41's and 43's for damage.

SB seems like it last just as long as it always had benn then again I have only play with a 55 for less then a month.

so I have to say I do not see farming as dead but as with all skill changes I see it as more of a challenge maybe time to rethink builds and strats instead of saying oh they nerf my favorite skill now I can not even play the game anymore.

that is just my 2 cents

Same here I still farm the same places after the update has been made to make sure everything is intact, indeed the farming process has been slowed but I'm sure that someone out there will think of a build that will laugh at Anet's face on the update they have made. Cheers everyone!

or u just have to agro small groups ?

VWK UW is still very do-able......gets tricky with argo's of 4 or more which means no more rounding up every smite you can find.

Question: how do you guys deal with the nightmares? Whenever I farm UW with my IW mesmer I take an interrupt to deal with them. But how do you do it?

As a Nec, I just wand them very quickly.

Basically, select the LAST target in the group of (usually) 3 Aatxes (press C, then tab twice). Then as you run in, you will hear the very distinctive sound of a DN popping up.

As soon as you hear that sound (and praying that you don't hear it twice), you just press TAB again to select the next target (in this case the DN), and hit Space to attack.

Thanks to Godlike Satan (kcp) for this advice. It works a treat. Usually, you will take them down in 2 shots with a customised wand. If it is going to take 3 shots, or you get the dreaded double-spawn, then you just RUN. As soon as you get rended, recast Prot Spirit (or whatever your damage-control skill is), then break aggro and get your remaining enchants up.

For the nightmares, even a 6 nightmare spawn would be easy enough to handle (it obviously is a hypothetical spawn). Just, when they pop, run back and hide behind Benton (look in KCP's thread for a pic), 2 aatxes will break aggro, the 3rd one will be stuck behind Benton and won't attack you, then, prot yourself, and wand the nightmares (they don't break aggro) to death. Then, reaplly your enchants, run out and reaggro the Aatxes. If there would be 6 nightmares, you would have to switch armors to 60 AL, but it wouldn't be hard (again this is a purely hypothetical situation).

For those having trouble with nightmares, I'm sure you have ignored all other uw solo threads and only read this one. Now, on to useful advice-

If you hit "c", it targets the closest thing. Tab to the last aataxe in the mob, and aggro. When you hear the dying nightmare pop (and they make a very distinct sound when they spawn), hit "tab" again and it will immediately target you to it. Hit space immediately after tab-ing and you'll wand it down.

Mouse-targetting is too slow.

Testing out 55 necro with Spoil Victor, much faster and easier to kill aaxtes and coldfires than what ss used to be, but graspings can be hard and slow and smites are slower that ss because 4+ groups have them run away, but working on perfecting my build.

Sniper sounds like youre adapting a nice build,I might suggest trying the following.Personally I use 3 weapon sets when soloing UW and they are 1)Vilnars Claw and the -50 cesta,2)Fiery Flame Spitter and -50 cesta and 3) Wailing Wand and the -50 cesta.I might suggest to you when trying this build on smites that after casting Protective Spirit and Healing Breeze on yourself (if infact you use those skills),swap to the Wailing Wand and watch how fast your Curses Skills recharge and how fast you are able recast..really helps alot when slapping groups of smites with SS and Suffering for me.Most of the time they cant smite fast enough. The Wailing Wand can be purchased from a weapon dealer in Cantha in Brauer Acadamy if i remember correctly.

then you might as well get a 55/sb monk.

i no longer do this after the aoe update. it was fun while it lasted, but tanking 1 group of smites at a time is extremely boring and slow. The days of pull the entire one side of the room is over.
