R/Me - ettin harvester
First of all I'd like to thank Dan Backblade for his post about shiro'ken farming. It was that which inspired me to play about and get this build together. Before posting this I had a search and have not seen anyone else post this type of ettin build but if someone has, I apologise.
I havn't seen a ranger build for ettin farming as efficent as this and for that reason thought you fellow rangers might like to try it. We might even get a few more rangers in beetletun to dilute down all the wammos.
This is not a guide about how to farm ettins, there are plenty of those about already, this is simply a new way to do it and to do it very efficiently with a ranger. Normally killing ettins with a ranger can be long winded and quite a chore but not any more.
With this build, rather than killing 1 at a time, we kill them all in one go.
Skills:
Storm chaser
Physical resistance
Ancestors visage
Sympathetic visage
Famine [E]
Primal echoes
Illusion of weakness
Troll unguent
Atrib:
Illusion - 10
Inspiration - 4
Beast Mastery - 7
Expertise - 7 (6+1)
Wilderness survival - 15 (11+1+3)
Weapons:
It's really your own preference but I use Illyana's staff
Edit: Now changed this to a collectors illusion staff with staff head of defense +5 & wrapping of shelter +7, works much better.
The vid:

Notes:
It's important you lay your spirits down behind you so the ettins never run towards them because if a ettin spots your spirit it will run over to it and kill it, which then means you have to wait around on recharges.
If your taking a large pack remember to use Illusion of weakness first, it makes a really good safety net in case you take just a little too much damage. I've never died whilst running IOW although I have done when I have forgot to use it.
I hope others find this build as fun as I do and good luck getting them sup vigors.

Armour wise I don't think it matters. I have both druids and explorers armour and have done it in both.
Illyana's staff sells for 1k-3k but I have just got a collector staff and put a defensive staff head +5 and wrapping of shelter +7 on it for a extra 12 armour. It seems to work better overall cause you still have plenty of energy and the extra armour helps reduce the dmg as you tank the ettins.
XP wise they give very little. About 16xp each I think.
As for the big pack of ettins, you get them by using the 'the last hog' quest.
Quote:
A quest available at the Ascalon Settlemen. "The Last Hog," when activated, causes a large mob of Ettins to spawn on the other side of the nearby portal. For farming purposes, do not complete the quest, but begin it to draw the Ettins through the portal. If you run down to the hog (follow the map marker) and run halfway back up that path, Ettins will spawn on your side of the portal and will move to attack you. Care must be taken since although the Ettins do not mob you all at once, the groups do follow each other very rapidly.

More info on wiki: http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/The_Last_Hog
Just trip the hog and run back to the top of the path, then wait for all 8 ettins to go to the hog, then folow and kill.

I was gunna cap famine on my ranger to use this build and troll farm but now with the addition of primal echoes and the fact that your farming ettins, it will be even more verasitility incase i get bored with minos/trolls. Thanks for the build.

Yeah I agree, but then ettin farming in any way gets boring fast if done too much. I normally do a few runs when ever I have a spare half hour of something, I've had a few sup vigors lately too, so it's still worth the time.
