EDIT: For the record, Assassins are discriminated against like mesmers-too many wammos tried using them like the ninjas in populer culture (read: one man army of wtfbbqpwness) and got clobbered. You'll probably have to work with henchies or assemble your own group.

Hang back, wait for the warriors to get the aggro, and (since my assassin is geared to monk/elementalist-hunting) slip into the fray and beat the crap out of said spellcaster, or pick off a lone caster.

You're not going to do very well against any warrior or dervish in a direct one-on-one fight. But doing that with an assassin is like trying to echo cast meteor shower as a warrior-not that bright.

You should take a 'bail' skill-something which will get you out of the scrum, if they start going after you. Return is good one-it teleports you to the target ally. (Scares them shitless-as an added bonus-when you suddenly appear next to them. XD)

Dark Escape is another good one, as it halves your damage, letting you run out of the scrum. Aura of Displacement (AoD) is a good elite, but there are better elties you can take. Recall is another good one, but it's an enchantment, so like AoD, if it gets shattered... well.

As for builds-fi I were you, i'd just do what I did-play around with builds. Experiment.

That's my fissure build. I use this all the time in the fissure, and it's good for taking out shadow monks, or at least, distracting them enough for the party to kill something else.

I find it best to shadow step to my target which is normally a spellcaster. After agro is for obvious reasons. Most groups will focus on the larger portion of the mods. This is where you can pick of the stragglers behind. It really is a good profession, its just that some people are idiots who use them foolishly.
