This skill can be captured VERY early from Elementialist boss Ulrik The Undefeated appearing in mesmer quest "Stone Summit Champion" taken from Sebedoh the Mesmer in Yak's Bend.
Boss is located right outside Yak's Bend exit, in Traveler's Vale.
Take 2 caps with you as he has stone daggers as well. If you don't feel like going to Captn Greywind in Ascalon Settlement for Ward Against Melee, take 3rd cap with you

Big problem is the forcing you to finish casting something every 8 seconds for it to stay up. Sounds good on paper, but that proves to become a major mana drain if you intend to have any real use in battle.

Just put on ether renewal and use stone dagger. For 5 mana, you have 75% melee evasion and you gain hp/mana. Now thats a bargain!

There is no quest. It's avalible to buy from the vendor in Fishermans Havan. It adds armour and doesn't evade. You guys are thinking of Magenetic Aura.
Just a quick clarificaltion. Armour DOES effect spells. Unless the spell has 100% armour penatration (like Obsidian Flame, Balthazars Aura or Illusionary Weponry) any armour adding skill Like Defensive Stance or Armour of Mist will reduce the damage from elemental attacks.

"For 8 seconds, you gain +10-34 armor against physical damage."
Doesn't help with spells, because almost all of them deal elemental damage.

The skill description is outdated.
Currently it is "For 8 seconds, you gain +10-34 armor. Whenever you cast a spell, Kinetic Armor is renewed for 8 seconds.".

As an E/Mo, I'm always casting so 8 seconds should not be a problem. You can also buy this skill in Fisherman's Haven... cause I bought mine there...

I use this on my PvP and it works great, extra armor thats pretty much going to always be there, just cant over work yourself and flush all your energy away.

Stone Daggers. 5 energy, no recharge. Perfect for keeping this up.

well wouldnt using a skill trigger the renewal because a spell is classified as a skill?

no because a spell is a skill but a skill isn't always a spell.
Does that make sense?

To make a totally pointless analogy;
All apples are fruits, but not all fruits are apples.
Skills are the broad category, like 'fruits', while spells are merely a subsection, like 'apples'.
So if a skill asks for a spell to be cast, then anything other than a skill with 'spell' in its type won't trigger it. (Spell, Enchantment Spell, Hex Spell, Weapon Spell),

So you want to spam a sub par damage skill to maintain a pretty weak enchantment which, not only takes quite a lot of energy to maintain, leaves you standing naked if it gets stripped (with two skill slots wasted) by any team with brains. Waste of space outside of pve, although last i heard is every mob has enchantment stripping since you all farmed them to hell with this stuff.

enchantments are enchantments, however. once an enemy notices either that A) he's not dealing as much damage as he should be or B) you casted this spell, chances are it's coming down.
also, a 3 second cast and 15 energy is a major hindrance.

Yeah, this skill, when joined by Stone Daggers and Ether Renewal can be quite formidable. It's easily employed by me to farm hydras. Very useful skill.
