What is it about Esurge?
I know Esurge is a good elite, and I've used it before. However, on looking at its description, what makes it so good? Its an energy burn, combined with a less powerful fireball essentially. The AoE is large, however, its not really that much damage. While it is good, I don't see why this gets so much use over others.
Edit: I'm talking about PvP btw. And, what makes E-surge better than say, Mantra of Recovery, in which you'll still get the same amount of energy burned away (2x E Burn vs 1 E surge and 1 E burn) but without the meager damage. In return, you get far more use out of the rest of your skills.

It's very flexible. Decent damage, the added benefit of E-denial, and a huge AoE. Good for pressure against those Wards.

It's a great pressure skill. If you cast surge+burn on their heal party guy, you just dealt 320 damage (assuming hitting 3 people with surge) and the HP guy has 16 less energy to counter what you've just done.

Actually, surge has fallen out of favour recently... i don't see it all that much anymore.

In response, couldn't there be better ways to take down someone's energy? As in, the mantra that speeds all your recharges, that would essentially make you burn at the same rate (2x e burn vs 1 burn, 1 surge), and would help all your other skills (shame may be more useful with a lowe cooldown in denying energy, diversion, etc).
All you would be missing out is some AoE damage, and, is that worth the elite status? Just curious.
I just don't know why Esurge has completely dominated the way it has (or had should I say, though it still is commonesque), unless I'm overlooking something major.

Well I use it when I do normal PvE with my mesmer, but when I PvE( RA, AB ) I use Migrane or Cripling A. and degeneration + interupts.

There is a huge tactical difference between using Surge+Burn, and just using Burn+Mantra.

It isn't really E-surge thats falling out of favour, Its Typical E-denial mesmers as a whole that aren't being fit into as many builds.

It's a nice Anti Spike spell in my opinion, nothing better than dealing 160 to the 2 Warriors frenzing away at your Monks.

Personally surge tends to scare the stuffing*** out of monks.I love to Mesmer and I love to monk, I know that the energy swaps stops the hurt of edenial however it still sucks when u have a good esurger sititng on you. If you stay to close to heal your team which is being pressured u just add to the damage and hurt everyone aroud you causing you to use some of your already depleted energy healing. Then if the rest of the Esurgers team is doing their job your energy eventually gets to a point where Esurge+burn+Wrack=GG Also Esurge, and mesmers in general are utility roles, they complement a team they are not main damage dealers or main healers but they are priceless if ur team knows wtf they are doing.
Esurge=Proactive response to healing
