It's Here.. The Illusionary Tank..
fancy being able to hit through armor, have 140 armor, constant +7 health regen and a fast attack rate? then look no further than 'The Illusion of Neutrality'
Mesmer/Assassin
12+3+1 Illusion Magic
9 Shadow Arts
9 Dagger Mastery (for the chance of dual strikes)
Skills:
Illusion of Weakness
Illusionary Weaponry
Deadly Paradox
Feigned Neutrality
and the rest are completely up to you, this build doesn't require any more skills actually, because you won't use them because they cancel feigned neutrality
Gear:
+5 energy Daggers of Enchanting +20%
Enchanters Armour
The Idea:
Cast Illusion of weakness, Illusionary weaponry, and before you hit the front lines, activate Deadly paradox, Feigned Neutrality, pick a target, and kill, when your FN is about to recharge, use DP again, and FN again. since FN only ends if you successfully HIT, and illusionary weaponry makes your attacks miss, it doesn't end through IW, so there you have the near-invincible IW mesmer.

Great idea, but feigned neutrality is in shadow arts. Maybe you should drop dagger mastery altogether and use a sword with a focus for extra energy? Very creative though, this sounds like an awesome idea.

Max energy isn't much of a issue with IW builds, it's not worth giving up double strikes for that.
But nice idea, I'd love to see this in action. Deadly Paradox looks to be very interesting skill in general...but that's for another thread.

Great job...and well done..I'll give this build a test when I have the time. But it looks promising.
But it's really good to switch out the dagger and replace it with scythe for the area damage. Just so you can replace dagger mastery with deadly art for deadly paradox.
One problem though...How are you going to manage you energy? Channeling may work.
And once again, congratulate you on your answer to Song Rui's tread.

Why use dagger Mastery?
It could be so much better without it.
Hint: Illusionary Weponary over-rides normal attack damadge. (it would also masively help with energy issues to put it all on shadow arts)

Unfortunately, this build still loses to anyone with Enchantment removal. If you run a "Normal" IW build, at least you can bury the important enchantments deep within a large stack of cover enchantments.
With this build you have to keep Feigned Neutrality on top, because anything else you try to put on will cancel it, and right below that you have your precious weaponry...

That is, unless you have someone else cast enchantments on you... But I agree, there's a big problem there. However, could this work in PvE? I mean, most enemies there don't have Enchantmen Removal, atleast not in Prophecies.
If anything, it's very creative and I think it sounds like an awesome idea. Gonna start a Mesmer right now and try it once Nightfall is out.

best energy management (if you ever really need it with IW) that I have found, is Burden... slows down your target and as it ends you get a ton of energy back...
Ive actually just jumped the boat from Me/N Frag spiker to start using IW. This is a very nice thread, and idea.
Im not too up to snuff on my Assassin skills= isnt there a skill that drops their movement rate and gives it to you? That might be just as fun as Burden but without the energy management.

I think this is good for farming melee monsters, but against anything with enchant removal, I don't think it's going to fly. Still a very nifty idea, though.

Nice one, .
I tried to do that with my ME/A before but I didnt know you had to put atributes in dagger mastery to double strike with IW lol, thats why it failed :O.

Very smart build and seems much more effective and fun then the old me/w and me/r...plus double strike would be interesting. theres just that ONE problem that all IW's have...enchant removal, but still nice work, also goes to show that there are still many other builds that involve proph skills to be upgraded and many more still unmade

It lacks enough attack speed to make it good pressure. May be good for PVE farming though.

It's a defensive pressure build. It focuses on long term damage by increasing the chances of the caster's survival.
