The New Thumper
I saw this build being used by some of the upper guilds, #4 specifically, i had to try it out for myself, I must say I'm quite impressed with it's power.
Attributes
Hammer Mastery: 12
Expertise:9+1+1
Beast Mastery: 9+3
Attributes can be adjusted around according to play style.
Skills
Hammer Bash
Crushing Blow
Irresistable Blow
Rampage as One {Elite}
Poisonous Bite
Charm Animal
Comfort Animal
Ressurection Signet
Equipment
A Full +Energy armor set.
Highest Vigor Rune available
A zealous Hammer of Fortitude or Defense
Another Hammer for when you are not attacking successfully or on the run (Blindness ect...) so your energy can regenerate, Rampage is one amazing skill but 25 Energy is harsh.
Usage
Keep up Rampage as One as much as possible, you shouldnt have to too much difficulty doing this. Remember Rampage is your builds main power it provides constant 33% IAS and a Speed Boost.
Use Irresistable Blow frequently (though spamming can lead to energy problems) it provides ample damage boosts.
When Hammer Bash is charged use your spike:
Hammer Bash+Crushing Blow+Irresistable Blow, if all hits connect sucessfully it should knock out around 50~75% of a casters health.

Rampage as one makes the ranger able to keep a 25% run speed up infinatly as well as 33% attack speed. Another strength is that the pet no longer is essential and is only usefull for blocking and utility.although the pet is still a useful weapon, killign it no longer weakens the build as much as it did. aslo with 25% run speed and KD kiting monks have a MUCH harder time getting away from mulitiple rampagers. all in all this really brings the thumper back with a vengance.
many top guilds are uncluding at least one or two of these for pressure instead of warriors. RA and HvH are swimming with them. As much as a hate to say it rampage as one needs a 4-6 second duration nerf. 33% attack speed and 25% run speed with no real drawbacks, with expertise even energy manegment isn't that much of a problem.

I think NUKE used Prot Strike, Bull's Strike, Crushing Blow and Hammer Bash.
In any case, for RA I usually just use Predatory Bond instead of Poisonous Bite, to give the build a bit of healing.
Rampage as One is rigged.

I think making so it doesn't work without your pet would be a fine way of balancing this skill.

It no longer works without a pet.
And it's still as imbalanced as before.

However it still works if your pet is dead, so it is hardly a nerf at all. I use my pet for utility (applying dazed or poison) so I will always bring Charm Animal, but you still don't need a pet rez.

I would bring Prot Strike/Distracting instead of Poisonous.

I'd love to say playing one of these was the most fun I've ever had, but with the !#&*@^#!@ Paragons running around making teams invincible, it kind of makes me sad that in all likely hood that when the paragon defenses get toned down, this skill will get the nerf bat as well.
My first impression when reading this skill:
WTF was Izzy thinking :/
Also, give this guy a try with beastial mualing (the one that does dazed when kd'ed, not sure if thats it)
In other news: I think poisonous bite is crap.
EDIT: in NUKE, we don't run it with +energy armor, we run with +10 armor while pet is alive. we also bump a point out of hammer for more expertise and beast mastery.

As much as I love beastial mauling, I've found that beastial mauling is often times unreliable. It's really that or disrupting lunge though, I can't think of too many skills to put in that slot.

it's a bit hard to use (I still havn't quite gotten it down myself) but when used right, it can break a team outright.
