Well, as I understand it, dye remover just acted as the base color of the armor. So just find out what the original base color of the armor was/is, and use that in place of remover. It will probably work the same as it used it.
Also, remember that they implemented a dye preview window. You can actually use that window to preview dye mixes on the armor before you even mix them. Double-click a dye, click the armor, then drag other dyes that you want to "mix" into the preview window. It will show you what it would look like on the armor. Trial and error should give you the desired effect.
