reply re N/R
Try it out I think you would like it , but not sure about mixing in death magic cos havent tried it.
I got tired of doing tombs as ranger, so experiemented with several primaries and secondary rangers, and I love my necro ranger for similar reasons to that that you propose.
I cursed up the necro , used barrage, pet, and distract, didnt miss expertise at all , and the damage from MOP is massive, with 42 damage to all surrounding foe with curses maxed.
Mainly used it in TOMBS in RBP runs and liked it as much if not more than my ranger.

You're spreading your attributes thin. Death Magic, Beastmastery, Marksmanship, Curses. And you're really only taking 1-2 skills from each. On top of that, you'll run out of energy without Soul Reaping or Expertise, even worse than the characters who do. Then add in the fact that none of those skills are really great damage dealers.
Basically, it'll work out really poorly.

Agreed.
No Soul Reaping means no energy management. No Comfort Animal means no portable corpse. Letting your pet die means you are out of all skills for a few seconds.
Little death magic also means limited number of minions. Healing??? Using Vampiric Horrors may be okay, but you don't have enough energy to support them.
Mark of Pain and Barrage = good. Mark of Pain and Bone Fiends = great. Animate Flesh Golem, Animate Bone Horror and Animate Bone Minions are not as fast in attacking as Bone Fiends (I think; AFG is the slowest of all).
I think you are better off with using Barrage + Mark Of Pain with points into Marksmanship 12, Curses 9+rune, Soul Reaping 10+head piece + rune.
Hope this helps a bit.
