Vocal Minority Oh My God
For those of you that don't know this skill, it can shutdown an entire class, for as long as you want.
description:
For 5...17 seconds, target foe and all nearby foes cannot use Shouts or Chants.
note that with enough in curses, you can keep this up indefinitly. And since your already in the curses line, using Parasitic Bond to cover it makes VM impossible to successfully strip.
Now my issue is that a single hex can completely shutdown an entire primary and/or secondary....for an infinite amount of time. And to top things off, this isnt even an elite.
My first response was Hexbreaker Aria to remove it...but oh look! Its a chant! and i cant use chants!
With ANet and all their nerfs to balance the game, i think they might have overlooked a skill or two.

It's a hex and subject to hex removals such as Expel, Divert, Convert, Purge Sigs, all common in PvP.

I see your point, as multi-hex removals are comman.....but Divert Doesnt get enough attention...at least not until the metagame turns more hex-heavy.
Expel is rarely seen in pvp, at least HA...because teams have much more useful elites to pack onto their monks or casters.
Purge sig...is RARELY USED.....ive seen this used in a sig only build...and thats an appropriate place for it to.
And honestly, most if no teams pack heavy multi-hex removals...though i can see people are going to start to. Just like they learned to put Mantra of Flame into almost every character build.

Pet attacks are also shouts, looks like a counter to beastmasters as well.
And Purge sig is used alot in GvG at the moment

actually pet skills are considered attacks that function in much the same way as shouts but are not

Thanks, was just going off memory as i am at work now, should of double checked first.
Still however there are afew pet skills which are actually listed as a shout like call of Haste. Might check when i get home to see if they are effected by this.

I beleive such a strong counter to Shouts was needed for balance, since Shouts and Chants are otherwise very powerful and non-removable.

In GvG:
Divert is used a lot (nowadays anyway).
Expel is used a lot.
Purge Sigs are used a lot lately too.

If you take it literally, Vocal Minority doesn't completely shut down the Paragon. They still have Spear Attacks, Signets, and Skills.

I can see Vocal Minority and other anti-paragon skills (that im sure are soon to come) are going to draw the metagame away from the standard incoming! and SoR builds used atm.
Obviously, this will lead people to play spear paragons....but unless they change Rampage as One, thumpers will always be a staple in almost every build.

Blind + Empathy completely makes warriors assassins, ranger, [mostly] dervishes, and [some] paragons down. Should we remove this? No.
Backfire makes any caster profession screwed, apart from the ritualist. But you can kill the spirit its 3 seconds anyway.
All professions have counters, get over it.

a build with a p/x and a x/p can almost keep "Incoming!" up all the time using it along with enduring harmony and you still complain about vocal minority being overpowered?
IMO if 2 chars can keep up the dmg reduction to 50%, something needs to be done

In GvG => Blessed light + energizing finale > vocal minority.
Vocal minority fail to achieve his goal because of the long recharge time.

True Blessed light will restore the paragon without too much trouble and vocal minority has got a long recharge time. But in RA I have seen Necro Mesmers shutdown paragons completely with vocal minority and soothing images. cant use shouts...cant gain adrenaline...makes most P/W pretty pathetic tbh.
There will always be counters to every build as LiamR says, it keeps things interesting.

I found that funny. Anyone else? The paragon using straight spear attacks is pretty weak since the attacks all have little utility except some cheap bleeding, some expensive burning, and some conditional deep wound. During the preview R/P's with spears had some popularity, but that did not continue at game release because they lack a strong spike which most teams need if the moment arises even if its just a E-Surge/pain with the warriors adrenal combo spike.
Anyway, Vocal Minority is a strong counter, but Hex removal is big in this meta, so it isn't going to take paragons out of builds.

This is a silly thread. It's like saying that pacifism should be removed from game, as it destroys warriors, rangers, assassins, dervishes and paragons.
Bring hex removal.

You'll notice that Shouts and Chants have every few counters. They can't be stripped once active and they can't be interrupted.
You know the counter exists, compensate for it. If you can't be bothered to bring hex removal when your build relies on shouts/chants, then you deserve to lose, end of story.
