Lightbulb hammer or sword

Hey Every1,
I have a COPPER CRUSHER, but I was wondering if a sword and shield is a better weapon combination than a hammer. I see most warriors with the sword so im wondering if i am doing the "wrong" thing.

There is no "wrong" thing. It just depends on if you're talking about PvP or PvE. In PvE, not many warriors use hammers simpy because of the lack of a shield; thus, the majority of warriors use axes and swords. In PvP, all three weapons are used. I can't believe you're ruling out axes.. c'mon, in terms of PvE, don't you love attack skills like Triple Chop (unless you don't have Factions) or Cyclone Axe? Or, in PvP, spiking your target with Eviscerate and skills like such..? Why are you ruling out axes? Well, I use all of them, but axes are my favorite as you can tell.

Others can elaborate; it's late.

i actually have used a hammer since day one

you knock them down whats better than that- making them bleed with a boring old sword? /yawn

and along with the no-shield thing, youll see 'hammer wars' are a little more free in their attribute distribution for their secondaries

but then again like shadowfox says, there is no wrong anything. Hammers are probably the least common choice, and prices will be better on your budget- im sure you could find a victo's maul for 5k in kamadan

hammers are more fun by far!

i use all 3 (hammer sword and axe) but hammer is the most recent one i have gone into and i love it, and i dont see much difference in effectivness betwwen hammer and sword ( but then again axe is above them both) heck i'd say hammers are more effective than swords in PvE.
as you say a lot of people use swords but thats just more reason to go hammer, with all those sword warriors running round making the enemy *bleed* whose gonna get busy and knock down all the opponents heading for your backline?

well thats my opinion filled with spelling mistakes and gramatical errors... enjoy

I like that guy. Having played all the warrior weapon types, I can tell you that they're all pretty much just as fun, though I do find sword to be more generic I think.
Random fact.. I bought a Victo's Maul for 1.5k because I could. I already had the hammers I wanted.. *sigh* I'm so bad with money in this game. Hammer mods and greens are definitely the cheapest, and by no means whatsoever are they bad.
In fact, hammers have the highest damage per second out of any of the warrior weapons, which takes into account the attack speed.
I use a build on my hammer warrior to deliver as many knock downs as possible, but it's also legit to go for raw damage on a hammer.
I would, however, advise you to play patiently and not get too frustrated with playing a hammer warrior. As you get better skills, and then your elite, you really start to shine. If you play axe or sword, you see more right away, I think. Also, I wouldn't advertise yourself as a "tank".. that shield makes a difference.
As a hammer warrior I'd wait for the sword whammo to go in first, then pick off the stragglers that try to get to the rest of the group. If some make it past you, try to protect your casters. This is also something that an axe or sword warrior can't do as well - protection. If a big bad mean warrior boss is raging on your team's monk, you can easily make him useless, while all the other warriors can basically just whack on it and hope their monk doesn't run out of energy.
Um.. in conclusion.. nothing wrong with hammers! Sorry if this doesn't make sense, it's almost 3am here.

Im not an expert having asked the question myself a while ago. The "best" thing to go with is how you have your char set up. Hammer really has the most freedom but in my opinion is the easiest to screw up when you go for a build, but you can really utilze your secoundary for example most Hammer guys i know Are W/E cuz of double knockdown or something (im quoting this from memory credit goes to..) but i notice with sword it takes up alot of skills on the hotbar just to make it work. I have no xp with axes tried once failed miserbly. anyway I saw go hammer since they are the most fun to use. if someone has a axe bild that works email it to me +)

As a sword warrior myself I disagree with some of the posts here. A sword warrior can have plenty of knockdowns. The tactic atk skills are an example. Drunken blow is the only 1 I can remember the name of atm but I saw 2 or 3 more. Also sword warrior I believe is the most fun to me. Sever, gash, dragon slash, sheild stance, shock, and res sig is my basic build with some random 2 skills that make my character unpredictable. Usually no heal sig so I'm stuck with no healing but I usually won't need it since no1 goes for warriors first and if ur the last 1 then u have a 20% chance to win if 2 or more r left at more than 3/4 hp. I've noticed a few sword skills that would work great. If u got ur energy up quite a bit u wouldn't need adrenaline and could use the energy sword and tactic skills and that would be a constant + 25 average I think. Well have fun with ur builds.

That's what I think with my many errors in writing ( I hated english class so I didn't pay attention for middle school and none this year yet ). Sry if this posted 2 times. My comp said it encountered a error so idk if it posted.

Drunken Blow causes yourself to knock down.

Shock, Bull's Strike, Bull's Charge with "On Your Knees!" are viable though.]

Hammer has highest damage

Axe second

Sword last

Sword does not require elite to be effective (use secondary elites)

Axe have good deep wound and AoE skills

Hammers have good knock down skills.

I agree with you, Silk. You summed it up pretty good.

If there was some adrenaline damage moves in there maybe it'd see more real use, besides riposte monks.

As it is, if I use tactics, it's almost always at 9, though I haven't played with Shove yet.

Hammer does make it easier if you use a secondary, like the old KD/AS combo. Of course you could just go 12 hammer and 12 str and have like 3 in whatever.

Swords does give more leeway though, the shield gives 16 more defence and you should at least have some extra damage reduction/extra defence +10 vs whatever and some extra hp. Though you then have to put attrib points into whatever the req of the shield is.

And don't dismiss tactics, "watch yourself" alone makes it worth having.

And.. how many points do you need in Tactics for Watch Yourself again? 0.
The only copy should be on the paragon, not a warrior. =P

As for this Drunken Blow crap.. that's exactly what it is. Sure, now you can have two copies and use up your elite to not be KDed. Big deal, where is your damage again? You can do much better with a more conventional build than anything in the Tactics line, and that's a fact.

Dragonslash I don't like so much in PvE, simply because of the high cost, and partial downtime without For Great Justice. If you take Sever and Gash, sure you can put deep wound on everything pretty fast, but so can a Triple Chopper with Dismember. You still have the limitations of a sword - no DW if they can't bleed - and your build looses effectiveness when For Great Justice is recharging. If you chose to drop Sever and Gash for other skills, like Galrath and Silverwing.. well then you're even more useless. All your skills cost a minimum of 8 adrenaline, and you lost deep wound. I think Dragonslash is over rated.

I maintain that the only real use for Tactics is Healing Signet, and you really shouldn't bother with it if you have even a henchman monk. PuGs are another story.. It's more of a safety net than anything.

I think "To The Limit!" is viable. "Charge!" is used. Vimway is used, but it's lame in my books. "Shields Up!" is used for anti Rspike when it was still in the metagame. Shove is used, too, but I hate it.

For PvE, Balanced Stance is smart at times. Of course, tanking opens up a whole bunch of posibilities with stance recharging skills like On Your Knees! and such. But those are those.
