N/Mo vs Mo/N
ok alot of people say that a 55 hp monk is better than a 55 hp necro
personaly i dont like the way monks look(call me racist)
necros have cooler armor and a better dance for anybody who cares
the reason (they say) that a 55monk is better than a 55necro is that SS takes 2 seconds to cast which slows you down
i was thinking abotu it and if you have a necro and use all the same monk skills isnt it just like a cool looking monk?
i mean the armor doesnt make much difference at 55 so i was wondering if what i was thinking is right

necros can kill faster big melee groups for sure.
but you'll need a monk to farm splitted foes such as ice imps.
also, monk primary allows you to run with ranger skills.

Necros DO have better looking armor(not that that matters), but they had to get stuck with the worst dance in the game! At least the male ele dance I can laugh at for amusement, instead of the Thriller dance, which has been dead(no pun intended) for about 15-20 years... Id rather watch monks do kata any day.

i guess it depends on what music you listen to
i happen to love the necro dance
it especialy looks cool with 6 or 7 of them in the same place
but nobody realy answered my question what is it about monk as a first prof. that makes it better than using a necro as first prof and just using all monk skills?

Because they created a monk instead of a necro?
It's much easier to just use your existing level 20 monk to farm than to recreate a level 20 necro... as for new farmers, it's just a matter of which profession they prefer.
And PS: favoring necro over monk isn't racist... they're all humans... so maybe... professionism? lol

as a necro the cast time doesnt slow you down it makes you easily interuptable. The monk also has the boost of divine favor, at 55hp this is an awsome asset.
As good as the 55 is and it still have its uses, the spirit bonder and Ritualist vermin farmer have long sense surpasses this build in speed while maintaining versitility.
Droks and the monk farming will forever be my home with UW ritualist runs a close second.

depends on the areas... its very very very hard for a necro to solo UW now that Aataxes are uber interupters and its still relatively easy for monk... well experienced players anyway...
For FOW.... Necros will always PWN for soloing
For plain old farming... I find that my 55 necro used to kill ALOT faster but its much easier to make mistakes.... for example.... your healing breeze and protective spirit don't last as long.... Seeing with the right equipment and skills a 55 monk can have his enchants last 150% instead of 100%... and even more than that compared to the necro because monks attributes for healing prayers and protections prayers are much higher.
overall.... its situational and i suggest making 1 of each

Due to all the nerfs solo is possible but painfully slow.
Atm the RT is the only thing that can efficently solo uw - the aatxes.
But in 17 minutes your back ToA clearing inventory and back at it again.
However 2man 600 monk/ Rt vermin farmer isthe best imo. once the monk clears aatxes rit takes the grasps and you split at the smites and cold fires for speed.

Actually, a 55 mes can do a solo smite run, just use leech sig on the nightmares, and you'll be safe. Anyway, I like using solo Necro a lot fordoing runs north of Drok's, but 55 mes ftw when it comes to Snake's dance...you can also do a 2 man SS N/Mo and 55 mes, and even 2-man Maw the mountain heart. The solo Monk is most useful though when it comes to those pesky tundra giants, large groups of trolls(they can take more aggro due to knockdown), and smites (yet again, they can pull larger groups).

I'm surprised nobody has said this yett.
The one most powerful thing that monk has over necro - Divine Favour
This makes the monk that much harder to kill. Sure, Necro's have IP, but DF is much better.
Also, with a 55 monk you can have countless skills. By this, I mean that since the needed class is your primary, you can go /Me /N /W /Rt /E etc.

Yea thats exactly the problem I've been having when soloing. Was there anything you could do to help vs Savage Slash? The best I came up with was casting Guardian before SS, it gives you a reasonable chance to get SS off.

Well i strictly run solo or with guildies. I absolutly hate PUGS.
Even if they stole an ecto from me its not of any major loss or concern. lol

Aesthetics aside...
1) Monks have divine favor which makes monks considerably harder to kill, while necros have soul reaping which isn't very useful most of the time
2) Monks have more flexibility in their secondary class ( you can choose elementalist for aftershock, mesmer, whatever) while a necro usually must take monk as their secondary, thus limiting their versatility.
3) Necros cannot solo UW as well as monks can, although both are critical parts of two man UW runs.
4) Necros have SS which kills melee attackers faster than SOJ, but SS has a longer casting time, cannot kill foes such as avicara and ice imps which are not clumped together, and is more difficult to utilize effectively so as to kill the max number of enemies.
Both are excellent characters and I think a 55 necro is just fine for farming, but I would have to say monk is superior in most occassions.

BOTTOM LINE: monks have divine favor, necros can get 16 in curses... therefore 55 necros kill faster, 55 monks can last longer. (assuming they are using the same builds)

Spell Breaker only works on direct spells. SS, Meteor Shower, Firestorm, any AoE spell will hit you as long as you are not the target of that spell. I.e.: you are beside a ritualist. SS on Ritualist, he/she attacks or casts a spell, you are hit.
Shield of Judgement on Monk, you attack said monk, you are knocked down and take damage. Spell Breaker won't protect you from this. If you ment SoJ = Signet of Judgement, then too bad, its a signet, not a spell, again you take damage and are sitting on your butt.
Mantra of Resolve = loss of energy for you (per interupt). Broad Arrow Head hits you, you are dazed. Normal attacks hit you, you are interupted (or should be) so you lose more energy. Daze is a condition, which means you suffer from it regardless of MoR. If they can't stop you from casting, they can hit you and make you lose energy.
The long recharge time of it doesn't help either.
