E/mo smiter?
Everyone who makes a smite monk in the Monk forum says it should be an e/mo.
I've been trying to think of why you would want a primary elementalist to be a smiter and I just can't figure out why other than so people don't think you are a healer monk.
Is there some OTHER reason I am missing?

Smiting Monks do more damage per shot as a Mo/x.
However, E/Mo has more energy, doesn't need divine favor, and better use out of Energy Storage skills.
Although, I'm sure SoJ is better for a smiting monk than not having SoJ.

I dont understand why u would want to go smite in the first place....low damage long recharges, not much utility.
balth spirit doesnt need smite to work, essence bond is a "general" skill. THere's no good knock down skills minus bane signet, which is slow. The AoE isnt really any better againt most enemies than lava font.
The elite smite skills eat donkey balls....the only really cool thing you can do with smite is be a tank pup. But you'd be better off being a normal monk if thats what you want....
Besides most E/Mo are either prot or heals and as an E/Mo youll be expected to be a back up healer end game anyway.
Ive had alot of sucess with an E/mo W/E combo. I spec smite and prayers with my E/Mo
cast the following on the w/e: Balth spirit, essecne bond, retribution, conjure frost, healing breeze, dawans kiss, strenght of honor, mist form.
Basicly the w/e goes frost and axe. get a ton of guys on him, and begins to kill REALLY fast, due to 20% armor pen, the conjure addition, and strenght of honor, ussualy ends up about about 50 damage a swing added on.
it works well enough, when people attack me, i mist form simple as that....

You got smite all messed up.
They use Zealot's Fire and RoF/Draw conditions/Guardian/Air of Enchantment/basically any 5e spammable spell to get huge dp's...not just use some smitign skills.

Late Response:
Can someone hook me up with a build?
I'm a noob to smiting and a noob to ele's so I'll let the pro's point me in the right direction.
This is for PvE. If there isn't a good PvE build, then tell me a PVP one.

Zealot's Fire got the AoE nerf, which is IMO the primary spell the ELMO smiter is built off of to do damage. Ether Renewal had its effectiveness dramatically reduced. And all forms of condition removal had their recharge time increased.
When it was useful, you could do 3 to 4 Draw Conditions a second while you had Ether Renewal up. Being able to spam around 100 dmg a sec, and actually gaining energy and health during the process is what made it so sick. Of course you had to have a tank to smite off of, for it to work that effectively.

Well I dont find smiting as an offensive spam very usefull, but I know when Smiting can be helpful to others. I like to use this build.
Hyprodimus prime (undercover smite healer)
Elementalist/Monk
Level: 20
Energy Storage: 15 (11+4)
Healing Prayers: 10
Smiting Prayers: 10
Protection Prayers: 1
- Judge's Insight (Smiting Prayers)
For 16 seconds, target ally's attacks deal holy damage and have +20% armor penetration.
Energy:10 Cast:2 Recharge:10
- Scourge Healing (Smiting Prayers)
For 30 seconds, every time target foe is healed, the healer takes 58 holy damage.
Energy:10 Cast:2 Recharge:5
- Smite Hex (Smiting Prayers)
Remove a Hex from target ally. If a Hex is removed, foes in the area suffer 60 damage.
Energy:5 Cast:1 Recharge:15
- Essence Bond (Monk other)
While you maintain this Enchantment, whenever target ally takes physical damage, you gain 1 Energy.
Energy:10 Cast:2 Recharge:0
- Infuse Health (Healing Prayers)
Lose half your current Health. Target other ally is healed for 124% of the amount you lost.
Energy:10 Cast:0.25 Recharge:0
- Healing Whisper (Healing Prayers)
Target other ally is healed for 80 Health. This spell has half the normal range.
Energy:5 Cast:1 Recharge:1
- Energy Boon [Elite] (Energy Storage)
You gain 20 Energy. Energy Boon causes Exhaustion.
Energy:5 Cast:1 Recharge:15
- Resurrection Chant (Healing Prayers)
Spell. Resurrect target party member with up to your current health and 25% Energy. This spell has half the normal range.
Energy:10 Cast:8 Recharge:0
I atatch Essence Bond to our tank for any extra energy I can salvage. In case of spikes, use Infuse health, and let the real monk heal you back since this build has no self heal. When the enemy tanks come charging in, cast Scourge heal. Then get someone to use blurred vision or somthing to hex the whole lot as a cover. When the monks or warriors try to heal, they take 58 damage (doesnt work for boon protects though, since divine favor doesnt trigger, but after the boon nerf, I think more people will use traditional healers!), Smite hex for hex removal and damage dealing and healing whisper for some high heal, low cost and low recharge. Helps monks out A LOT. And lastly my favourite, Use Judges insight on a axe penatration tank or Barrager. The barrager hurts like hell now and often over whelms the enemy monks. The Penetration tank now has 10% from str, 20% from penatrating blow/chop, and 20% from Judges insight, that 50% armor penetration which can kill *counts on fingers* very very fast!. When against minions, judges insight on the Barrager will kill them again really really really fast due to penatration and holy damage. Hope you enjoy!

My Smite, if I would ever run it, would be:
Zealot's Fire, Reversal of Fortune, Ether Prodigy, Smite Hex, Judge's Insight, Mend Condition, Glyph of Sacrifice, Resurrection Chant. 12 Smite, 16 Energy Storage.
Or you COULD drop Glyph for a ward (or Windborne or Heal Party), making it:
Energy Storage 10 +1 +1
Smiting Prayers 12
Other Attribute 8 (+1)

I used to run E/Mo smite in random arena just because ellies get targetted soo often...(I have a new sweet Me/Mo smiter that's nice)
Earth: 14 (12 + 2)
Energy Storage: 10 (8 + 1 + 1)
Smite: rest of pts
1.) Balth Aura
2.) SoW
3.) Armor of Earth
4.) Aftershock
5.) Banish
6.) Shield of Judgement {e} (or signet depending on my mood)
7.) Aura of Restoration
8.) Res Sig
it was just for gags, but it was hilarious when I ran into the occassional stupid whammo who thought his silly mending would protect him.
