This is actually a variant of my Shockwave Eletank build that I created awhile back...
SHOCKWAVE ELETANK V.2
Skills:
Obsidian Flame
Shockwave (E)
Sliver Armor
Kinetic Armor
Armor of Earth
Vengeful Weapon
Generous was Tsungrai
Flesh of my Flesh (for rez) or Resilent was Xiko
ATTRIBUTES:
Earth Magic: 16
Restoration: 10
E-Storage: 9
EQUIPMENT:
-A +5 Energy Sword or Axe with +20% enchantment mod (Totem axe works great for a cheap alternative.)
-Collecter's Earth Scroll (HSR, HSC of Earth OR +25 health +5 armor while ench.)
USAGE:
The heart of the build is kinetic armor. With vengeful weapon you can upkeep kinetic armor FOREVER for a grand boost of +83 armor. This puts you on par with a tank. Vengeful weapon has a quick recharge and almost no cast time, so its interrupt safe. With a +20% enchantment mod you have a 12 second window to recast any spell or vengeful to keep your armor active. Also stacking armor of earth on top of this nets you +63 armor turning your ele into a 220 armor tank. With this much universal armor any armor affected attacks will deal NOTHING to you and you will lifesteal 45 health from the attacker every 3 seconds, which is alot of gain when your taking almost no damage.
For example a dead on siege strike from a luxon turtle that normally deals 300 dmg will only deal 12 dmg, and you life steal 45 so in essence you are gaining 33 health off a 300 dmg attack. Simply pop on sliver armor and watch the reflective damage destroy surrounding enemies as they try to crack you thinking your a squishy. Shockwave piles the numbers on to this by dealing mass earth damage to anyone near you. Obsidian flame is also used to finish runners or persistant enemies/players.
The build is very enchantment heavy but if you are rended you can throw on armor of earth to survive since it has a 3/4 second cast. Also because each spell renews kinetic armor be aware that will ALWAYS be the first enchantment removed.
This build ultimately rapes tanks that try their luck with you. By the time they realize they really cant hurt you they it will be too late and they will back off and healing sig. This is when you bust your shockwave out and say sayonara.
If you drop below 1/2 health you can use ashes of tsungrai to gain a huge amount of health but beware of the life sacc that deals about 35 damage prior to the huge heal. The skill is best used after a vengeful weapon to mask it and catch an extra 45 steal for you to offset the sacc.
Think of yourself as a riposte warrior that uses spells and enchants instead. You will deal way more damage and have ranged and good AOE attacks. However the downside is that blackout, extreme KD, or mesmers with diversion or backfire will be the bane of you. You can survive backfire but using tsungrai to renew kinetic armor and offset the backfire damage until the spell wears off. Getting vengeful diversioned is not cool at all, so you want to try to sacc another spell like shockwave if you find yourself in that position. You should be able to decently tank some degen but if you are in an area where you do not need a rez, ashes of xiko is great since it lets you tank conditions and lose 3 when you drop it. Also the majority of your damage is based on enemies hitting you.... and the more they do the faster they die. However even if they dont, you still have obsidian flame and shockave. Because of your lowcost spells you can blow half your bar on exhaustion with obsidian flame and still function normally.
This build has great PVE uses and is a blast for RA and TA. It bends all the rules of being an ele and turns you into a real tank This build also has great farming potential and can farm just about anything that doesnt rend just as well as a 55. Im sure Ghail is possibility, Vermin are cake, Hydras are VERY easy with this build, and you can also solo ALL of zen daijun in under 15 minutes with smart playing. Also I've been able to capture bases in Aspenwood by taking the commander, priest, all 4 luxon warriors AND the turtle at the same time! Also in aspenwood you can capture mines in under 10 seconds each with this build. Many AB shrines are easy to take and also MMs are totally destroyed when you stand next to the MM and watch him get slivered. You can also just wipe a MM's ENTIRE minion force in just 10-20 seconds by slivering and shockwave them into submission. Also places like THK are very easy and you can simple outsmart the heretics by letting them rend kinetic armor and throwing on armor of earth to cover the armor loss. Being dazed hurts but it still doesnt have an effect on vengeful so you can spam vengeful to survive.
You should be packing about 72 energy with this setup. Kinetic armor is the most expensive spell and you will only cast it ONCE. Everything else in the build only costs 5-10 E which allows you to survive decently on an empty energy bar. I haven't run into alot of energy issues. You can also focus swap to a +15-1 item like Snapjaw's Powerstone when you hit rock bottom for a last minute tsungrai or when you find yourself in danger of losing kinetic armor.
Heres some examples of some poor hydras that fell to the wrath of my eletank...
Currently, my highest record was soloing 22 hydras at once with this build... (: It's fun as hell to play and pretty impressive when other players watch whole armies die in droves around you... especially Zen. Im the psycho ele that solos it every now and then.)
I hope this build prompts experimental eles to try this out, or those eles low on cash can use it to make a dime or two slaughtering hydras and other such monsters easily.

Can't solo UW, same problems as a 55. The savage slash is bonus damage and will damage you regardless of armor and the dying nightmares will completely strip you. I tried with obsidian flesh as a substitude for armor of earth but it works way to slow. It's possible for a 2 man team but theres SS-SV/55 for that. If you want to solo UW you need to be a monk or 55 mesmer. Those are the only two perfected ways to solo UW thus far.

Yeah I've switched to the strongroot farming build shown in that youtube video... that build is awesome and absolutely destroys strongroot and chkker 1000 tail. This build however is still great for farming hydras and destroying warriors in RA. Perhaps maybe ill try an obsidian spike team with this build for kicks.... IWAY would get mutilated.
Too bad Bspike is dominant now... can't do much vs. armor ignorant dmg. Rit Lord Ftw.
I'm hoping nightfall expands on ele versatility, im finding a serious lack in what roles eles can play in HA battles and the such. Ward or snare seem like the only two options and I agree with the crappiness of the fireline in pvp with the exception of starburst, which is a very good skill for a bad line. The recent prodigy nerf also makes it harder to efficiently use eles... but its not like you end prodigy at high energy anyway.
