Yea, but after a while, there are only so many things you can do with money in the game... so why not reward your characters with FoW armor

Ok....so you say I'm more nubbier than any fow wearing person? Just because I always buy 1.5K? Well nuh-uh! I'm not rich, because I don't farm. Farming makes people learn about the game? Go farm trolls, llike bots, they can be freakin' programmed to do it!

I play PvP. No money ( unless amber from faction ). No grind ( Not doing HA anymore ) No crap ( My armour is better than yours! it costs more money ).

I honestly believe I know more about the game than most FoW'ers, that is including PvE.

Don't judge a book by its cover, don't judge a player by his armour. Judge the player by his response to your questions.... Intelligent questions that will assure you that he is no noob.

Because some of us(like me) see it as a waste of money, and/or have absolutely no intrest in "looks" armor. For me, personally, all I care about is the protection it offers. Practicality FTW! lol

When you come down to it, there's really very little that you need to spend money on in this game. Eventually you're going to end up with a surplus no matter what you're doing. Even though I pvp almost exclusively these days I still make money; you can't gvg all the time, and if you play HA at all you're going to end up with a sigil or two. Even taking a character through either campaign will net you around 100k if you take the time to pick up everything as I did the first time. Getting 15k armour in reality takes very little to no grind whatsoever, so why not. It's not like you have better things to spend the money on.

Even outfitting a pve monk for pvp isn't going to break the bank. Forgotten fans are 3k these days and you can get most of the wands and offhands you'll need from collectors. A sup vigor is probably the single most expensive piece you need and it's really not that much. After you've got the requisite 4 energy level weapon switches and armour switches, what are you going to spend the rest of the money on? Might as well be 15k armour.

That said, it's facile to judge a person on the armour they're wearing, if they're in 1.5k it's more than likely that they're on a pvp char. So that whole argument just goes right out the window. If you want to know the quality of the person before hand get them on TS/Vent and ask for their build, you can usually judge pretty quickly how much someone knows depending on how they describe what they're running.

You seem to forget that some of us arent good at selling things. I, for example, even at 1g per 55 gallon drum, couldnt sell icewater in Crystal Desert. Ive had a couple sales jobs IRL too, and will never do that again.
Ive since learned the usefulness of the -20hp symbol for Bad Tenant quest, but to me, its still not worth the 5k I sold one for about 2-3 weeks ago. When I first started playing, I thought 100g/+ on a weapon was a fair price(still do, kinda), at least, its what Idve been willing to pay. But now I can see how things work better, but Im still better off merching stuff, thab trying to find a buyer. Ive been playing about 7 months, and have managed to sell no more than 12 items, tops. Not junk either, so Ive all but given up on the "Selling drops to players for money" thing, as its not working.

When I bought my monk FOW armor, I mysteriously gained all the necessary information and skills to play all monk builds and got my r3 the next day w/o ever doing HA because the fact that I now have FOW simply made me great, its awesome. Thats why FOW armor is so expensive, it comes w/ a great deal of knowledge, its like the fountain of youth, or trying to reach that guru that lives on top of the highest mountain, when you get there, you probly have already gotten the answer to all of life's questions and he will just be there to give you a pat in the back when you reach the top.

You know what I'm saying? ya feel me?

There comes a point when you can't do anything with your money apart from buy armour, minipets and nice skinned 15>50 weapons. No one thinks that FoW armour is worth millions, but if you had the money, what else will you do with it? "Pimp my armour" is the only game worth playing for some people.

I like 15k, as I worked for it, and it looks better than 1.5k, but nobody else cares, and I only use 20/20 collectors weapons. Be good, not rich (unfortunately I'm neither)

personally I find the FoW armor mostly all ugly. The monk set is alright, but I play an elementalist, and the elementalist set, well that's just retarded looking.

just to add...completing any of the 2 campaigns will not net you with at least 100k....youre lucky if you get to 25-30 without spending any money

I dont see much difference between the 1.5k and 15k in Factions, however i was one of those people once thinking "omg FoW is sooo ugly only idiots would buy it" then came a time where i got one piece ebcause i had the money, then another etc. I really like FoW armor now and is much better than most other armors when fully loaded, it also means that you dony buy lots of sets of 15k stuff. In the long run it costs just as much as multiple sets of 15k. I think 15k Gladiatores armor is pritty horibble though and over pupular and i dont like the warrior 15k luxon. It makes you look like a big Tree with fungus growing on it.

That is not true what about those PvP only players who only have 1.5k armour to use are they exprienced I would think so and to the OP it is just reward to yourself for putting in lots of time redoing missions over and over agian or helping someone out. Then you can do the occasional visits to Toa and Topk or the new places of urgoz and the deep.

This is... SO SO SO SO SO SOOOOO TRUE!

In a way its kinda sad. You pay all this money to look "cooler" when the stats are identical...

I also don't think it would imbalance the game at all if the 15k sets had better armor. It works that way in WoW for example (Epics have better stats than greens) and it is fine.

And before you start flaming, realize my ENTIRE POINT is that money is completely useless in this game EXCEPT for making yourself look cool. That is it.

You can finish the game AND (this is the kicker) have the exact same stats as ANY OTHER PLAYER by spending 10k on Droks armor and crafting/going to a collector for your 15^50 req 9 sword/20/20 staff, etc, etc.

It makes absolutely no difference....

My 2 cents.

And in some ways, fow armor also shows that you have experience + knowledge of this game, for pve.

or that you bought gold off ebay

okay let me some this up very quickly for you.

1.5k armor = 15k armor = fissure armor w/ stats

With looks 15k>1.5k armors leaving fissure your opinion depedning on which class and what appeals to you.

This doesn't support farmers... thats just ridiculous. The reason for more expensive armor is because guild wars as an MMORPG doesn't have much to offer as far as pve, pvp, or content in general. When people are not casual gamers and spend a little time each day farming..
1) your money will quickly become plentiful
2) you'll become very bored with this game...

Why do they have 15k armor and Fissure armor which just look better... the same reason there are 20/20 collecter staffs which you can buy the items for like 50 each..... while a ghostly staff with the same stats will cost you
100K+Ectos...

The problem is yea this game might keep you intrigued long enough for you to farm and get your elite status armor but then what... okay I bought a perfect chaos axe and eternal shield... Im uber hooray... now what... okay wait 6 months for the next game.. but the level cap doesn't raise, fissure armor is still the best... after you reach a certain level with Guild Wars... you'll find yourself bored out of your mind. After buying the best with your main character no problem....make another character... no problem you have 6 slots.... but in a couple months with all 6 slots full of level 20s with the best armor then what... well for me I sold my account ans started playing a real MMORPG. The reason GWs has any fan base AT ALL is because its free. People that have always wanted to play Everquest or World of Warcraft didn't because of monthly charges so guild wars offers them a wonderful opportunity. but seriously the game is weak.... there are 1.5,15k, and fissure armor with the same stats simply because its easier then giving the community better and more content. Gives people something to work towards and keeps them playing. But after doing so with several different characters... these weak expansions that can be completely and totaled PWNED in a day will not hold there own.

Take WoW for example.... Level cap of 60 which takes ALOT of gametime to achieve. So you play for 5 months and invest a ton of time to reach the level cap. Well in WoW a level 60 isn't anything special.... gunna have to spend countless hours to get the best gear by raiding dungeons in parties of 40 people. Its nothing unheard of for people that have played with there main characters for over a year and still haven't gotten the best of gear. Now with the XPAC in November the level cap is raising to 70 and in case you don't know how real leveling works... its going to take about the same amount of time to level from 60-70 that it did to level from 1-60.

There are good and bad things with this. You can't play 1-2 hours a week and get ANYWHERE. but for people that actually want to put in some time and are dedicated gamers... other MMORPGs are very rewarding. Guild Wars is a cheap knockoff...

so if you wanted a short answer.... here it is

1.5k=15k=Fissure because Gws sucks. You don't get rewarded for the work you put into the game.

In WoW the more work you put into the game the more powerful your character is.

you can have so many levels of lvl 60s in WoW

60 w/ green gear
60 w/ blue gear
60 w/ tier 1 gear
60 w/ tier 2 gear
60 w/ tier 3 gear

Also have lvl 60 pvp gear of both superior and epic qualities

the difference is this... a level 60 in greens can be achieved in a few months of dedicated gaming... however a level 60 of tier 3 quality are very rare and take well over a year of dedicated gaming. Now theres an addition of 10 more levels and even better gear. This also doesn't take into consideration any of the modifications you can have done to your armor in WoW. Armor Kits, Enchanting, Jewelcrafting.....

GWs is a joke

sorry rant over.... I was once a dedicated Guild Wars Player... I could never see spending 15 bucks a month to play a game. But after decking out multiple characters to the point I was deleting lvl 20s with 15k armor to make new ones because I was bored I gave a different game a try. One that rewards its players with real content, new content, were you always have something to do. Guild Wats, since factions release take a sitting of about 5 hours to hit the level max. That is seriously lame.

Guild Wars = about 100 bucks a year (1 game every 6 months)

WoW or EQ2 = 160-180 bucks a year... first month is free for your first year you pay for 11 months. You can also buy gamecards for tremendous discounts on ebay. My first year and a half of WoW was covered just by selling my GWs account. Thats all GWs was good for....

Guild Wars is for Casual Gamers

Wow or EQ2 is for serious gamers

There was a time when FoW armor was the thing to get.
When you get PMs asking you what armor is that.
You get people follow you in towns trying to get a pic of it.
That was when the game was still new and no one knew what they were doing.

That time when you had FoW it meant that you "are" rich and that you know what you are doing.
The time when the first person posted Mesmer FoW and no one have seen it before. http://forums.gwonline.net/showpost....86&postcount=6

Nowday, a big % of the time it just does not mean anything.
People get forge runs to get FoW armor same as spider runs as well etc etc...

The way I see it, I get armor if I like it or not. I liked Mesmer FoW so I got it. I did not like it for warrior/necro so I did not get it.
In Factions, I did not like the Ranger 15k Canthan so I got the 1.5k since I like it more.
If you buy 15k armor to show off then you are wasting your time most of the time since its easy to get armor if you just farm abit.
