Default R/E build (tell me what you think)

Ok thus far, I'am working on a build here using R/E to hopefully use for both PvE & PvP.

So far at level 12 I have the following:

Skills:
Apply Posion (later replaced by Positon Arrow {e})
Dual Shot
Hunters Shot
Distracting Shot
Kindle Arrows
Whirling Defense
Conjure Flame
Troll Unguent

Attributes: (So far)
Fire magic - 3
Expertise 5+1
Wilderness Survival 5+1
Marksmanship 5+1

Equipment:
Fiery storm bow of fortitute
Fire dmg 15-28 (req9)
DMG +20% (while hex)
Health +29

Armor is Druids 1.5k

Any suggestions, ideas, comments?? Please the more the better, I'am new with rangers and so far have been doing great in all missions and quests with this build. I hope for it to grow and possibly have an alternate build setup as well. Anyways, I appretiate your time.

Couple things I've found:

No need for two preps. Kindle Arrows makes bow fiery, so no need to have fiery bowstring; pick one or the other.

And as I have painfully found, it is much easier to stick to two or three attributes, instead of building an averaged point distribution that early in the game.

Success you will have until you try to traverse around Lion's Arch. My R/E just hit a pretty big wall out there.

it actually sounds interesting, but you will have to choose eventually. you might have to have 9 in marks, 16 wilderness, rest in fire magic. the problem is that now you shuold not have expertise, which is the thing that makes rangers so great

Well that sucks.. It was a sundering 20^20 before I put the fiery on it.. Should I just go ahead and rebuy a Sundering bow string?

Sundering is bad. You would be better off with a vampiric bow, it will give you higher damage overall, especially if you're hitting with dual shot and stuff.

Why have sundering and kindle arrow and apply poison? You need to specialize, not generalize.

I know b/c I just broke the habit two days ago. See post 'midgame ranger help'.

Idk if I would go so far as to say that Sundering is bad. I agree that Vamp is best for dealing max dmg possible, but Sundering is good for when you are under pressure or when the -1 health degen is just a bit too risky.

I would suggest that the person in the OP get a +15%^50 or +15% enchanted bow for his build since +20% while hexed is a bit conditional. Also a shortbow probably wouldn't be a bad idea for this build to increase attack speed and keep you close to your target to allow for more reliable interupts, but a long bow (storm bow) will probably still work fine.

I'd drop apply poison for now, and find something else you'd like to bring.

Not bad, but you should only take one prep with you.
