Hi there

I am new to GW, as first char I picked an Ele. I have some questions about the wands & scrolls you can get from collectors.

If I havent missed anything, this is whats out there (I took earth magic as an example but all for schools seem to be identical):

Earth Wand:

Prophecies:
Earth damage: 11-22
Halves skill recharge of Earth Magic spells (Chance: 20%)

Factions:
Earth damage: 11-22
Halves skill recharge of Earth Magic spells (Chance: 20%)
Energy +5 (while Health is below 50%)

Earth Scroll:

Prophecies:
Energy +12
Halves skill recharge of Earth Magic spells (Chance: 20%)
Halves casting time of Earth Magic spells (Chance: 20%)

Factions:

Energy +12
Earth Magic +1 (20% chance while using skills)
Health +30

Energy +12
Energy +15
Energy regeneration -1
Health +30

Energy +12
Armor +5 (while enchanted)
Health +45 (while enchanted)

So, my first question: if I get a wand, I get it from factions? it isnt much better, but there is no point to get the prophecies version?
About the scrolls: To me its incredibly hard to judge which of those 4 I should regard as "best" or what to use each one for, any advise would be highly appreciated.
And the final question: How good are these collector items in general? Especially with focus items the random loot drops seem to be very popular? How do those compare to the ones you can get from collectors?

And finally, I am looking at the staves also, I think I already understood that there is no final answer regarding staff vs. wand/focus, but to me the wand/focus seems to make sense for a newbie as I dont have to worry about weapon mods at the start. Or wouldnt you recommend going for this stuff at all?

Well, lotsa questions, but well, I rather ask than farm for something totally useless

depending on your build, i'd take the second wand and first scroll, but ideally I like to lug around quite a few weapon sets.

I'm a huge fan of the +15/-1 offhands on eles, Just picked up a green one actually with a req in energy storage. They're great in conjunction with ether prodigy to swap to to cast large spells such as deep freeze, or when you run out of energy warding.

For now though, get wand 1 and offhand 2, and as you progress you'll see what you need more and more.

I may be mistaken, but I think you can craft that one in Drok's...or is that a flame artifact...

That's a Flame Artifact. I remember because I was considering getting it instead of The Kindlerock. Decided to wait a few days, got Rago's Flame Wand AND The Kindlerock, for 20k(Wand was about 35k and the rock was about 20k back then). I then swapped them both for Rago's Flame Staff. I'm happy
