Ranger / Mesmer (My first build)
The next BWE will be my first experience of guild wars and i am greatly looking foward to it.
I originally wanted to be a "Ranger / Elementalist" but the while Browsing the forums, i found that a lot of people didnt find them very affective, my original thoughts were that if i became the Ranger / Elementalist i could deal the maximum amount of damage with out taking to much myself.
So then i moved over to the "Ranger / Mesmer" build and i came up with this, in the two minutes i had spare today.
(As you can tell i am a Guild Wars noobie, so plz dont be to hard on me ).
Class: Ranger / Mesmer
Attributes: (cost)
Expertise: 11 (77)
Marksmanship: 10 (61)
Wilderness Survival: 4 (10)
Inspiration Magic: 9 (48)
Total attribute points used: 196/200
Skills:
1) Energy Drain (elite) - (5,1,20) Steal 16 energy from target foe. This is an elite skill.
2) Ether Feast - (5,2,8) Target foe loses 5 energy. You are healed 20 for each point of energy lost.
3) Spirit Shackles - (10,3,5) For 20 seconds, target foe loses 5 energy whenever that foe attacks.
4) Power Drain - (5,1,25) If target foe is casting a spell, the spell is interrupted and you gain 19 energy.
5) Read the Wind - (5,2,12) For 12 seconds, your arrows move twice as fast as normal and deal 13 extra damage.
6) Apply Poison - (15,2,12) For 12 seconds, enemies struck by your physical attacks become poisoned for 6 seconds.
7) Troll Unguent - (5,3,10) For 10 seconds, you gain health regeneration +5.
8) Pin Down - (15,0,15) If Pin Down hits, your target is crippled for 11 seconds.
Any suggestions to help me improve?
I plan on doing more PvP rather than PvE if this helps you.
My other builds took me much longer to make, but since i heard that the "Ranger / Elementalist" is not a very good combintion i discarded them and quickly whiped this one up.
Thanks For your time.

Hmmm.. being that you haven't played yet, do not discard your R/E options just yet. Having heard that something isn't a great combination is more of personal choices and opinions ok. Just I don't want to see you limit yourself because of "outside" advice. A lot of what will make a certain build successful is also YOUR own skill/style/play; even in a PvP environment. Is just a matter of learning what works for you and your team.
As far as this build goes? Take a closer look at some of your ranger skills too before you completely settle here. You are using almost no ranger assets as a ranger primary, might be better off reversing the primaries for this.
5 & 6 are both preps... that would count as one.
troll unguent in PvP means very little.. it won't help you enough in thick of it
that leaves you only one bow attack/ one prep...... and 4 mesmer skills
You might be on to something eventually but go back through it a little more.
EDIT : BTW.. you are approaching the build of my baby girl ..I won't disclose her but I will let you evolve this one your own.... you are on to something just that you gotta try it out during the beta to see how it works for you. ok?

Ranger/ Elementalist wreaks havolk on all things PvE. (can take down massive amounts of monsters ganged up on you with a few barrage + conjures).
I really like Ranger/ Mesmer though. I've tryed all of them except Ranger/ Necro but /Mesmer is probably my all time favorite for a ranger combination. Oh by the way... You should know that both Read the Wind and Apply Poison are considered preperations, so you can't have both going at once.
