Default Energy problems

With the ranger having the second to least amount of energy, am I going to have a lot of trouble using the spells from my secondary class, an elementalist, or am I going to be able to augment that somehow? If I can, what would I use to do so?

If you do end up having energy problems, put some points into energy storage and wear items that boost energy storage.

He can't put points into energy storage as a primary ranger..only a primary elementalist can utilize energy storage.

That being said... try putting your expertise up to an optimum level (8-10)to reduce your ranger skill costs (trap/attack skills/rituals/stances/glyph/shouts.... doesn't reduce ..spell/ hex/ enchantments) as a way to manage your energy and leave more left over from your ranger skills usage to be usable for your elemental spells. Also...you may want to be choosy about your elemental cpells to use...try sticky with ones that won't cost you all your energy in one shot. figure 15energy cost as a benchmark ceiling... if you can get used to the management and swing with it..you may be able to pull off high cost spells later on.

You may want to consider changing your secondary class to mesmer. Then you could take advantage of a host of energy stealing spells.

Yeah, that'll really help his ranger cast those expensive elementalist skills!

On the ranger side of things, you have Expertise to keep the cost of most ranger skills down. On the elementalist side, you have the Attunement spells which are kinda similar, except they use a skill slot. You also have glyphs. Back on the ranger side, you have Marksman's Wager. So, if energy is a problem, you really have a variety of stategies to deal with it...

3 ways to change secondary.
1. pre-sear..opt not to make the secondary permanent at one trainer and go try another secondary from a different one.

2. Upon reaching ascension (level 20) an option wil become available to change your secondary to a different character class to open up different possibilities...could feasibly over time cycle through all secondary classes.

3. Delete character and start over if you feel it isn't worth continuing as is.

Expertise at 10:
Lower the cost of all non-spell skills. 5->3, 10->6, 15->9, 25->15.

Expertise at 11:
Lower the cost of all non-spell skills. 5->3, 10->6, 15->8, 25->14.

Expertise at 12:
Lower the cost of all non-spell skills. 5->3, 10->5, 15->8, 25->13.

Expertise at 15:
Lower the cost of all non-spell skills. 5->2, 10->4, 15->6, 25->10.

You get the idea. Any Ranger wants to invest strongly in Expertise.

Most rangers won't want a ton of Elementalist nukes in his/her build since they can do good damage with a bow. All I would take is a conjure spell (with an elemental bow string, otherwise it won't work) and maybe a hex that is activated on certain types of elemental damage (Glimmering Mark, Mark of Rodgort,, etc) and maybe one low cost spell (ward against melee, Ice Prison, Immolate, etc) and a glyph to lower the cost of the hex or spell if you chose a high energy one.

Marksman's Wager is a great way to regain energy, as long as you hit your target. Choose a target that is close by or not moving, or snared to ensure that you hit them.

Like Dreamsmith said, there are alot of ways to deal with the low energy, try them out and see what works in your build.

Not all non-spell skills get lowered by Expertise. The touch attacks (Lightning Touch) are an example
