I've been looking though the skills and I seem to have a pretty solid build around a couple AoE/PBAoE fire skills and some AoE death magic.

Err well here:

Aura of Restoration
Fire Attunement
Flame Burst
Fire Storm
Phoenix or Inferno(need some input here)
Animate Bone Minion
Death Nova
Putrid Explosion

My real issue lies in which primary I should use. Soul Reaping or Energy Storage. Is 15 or so energy in the beginning better than relying on the feedback of soul reaping?

In an AoE build, it's likely that all of the mobs attacking you will die at about the same time. In which case, Energy Storage will be a better choice.

However, if there's still stuff leftover, or not everything is dying at the same time, you'd be better off w/ soul reaping.

Yeah, soul reaping shines when the battle is long and involves lots of deaths - if you have time to rest between fights ES is probably better. Honestly I tend to pull groups small enough to handle, so with only a few deaths per encounter you don't have any real edge over ES (unfortunately...)
