Twister, I had trouble too on my first time through Yak's bend trying to fight my way through to Borlis Pass. Better weapons and armor may help you a little bit, but game tactics (not the tactic attribute) will help you much more. The mobs get much bigger at Yak's so one thing you need to learn is to control agro, and as a Ranger you can do this by pulling mobs away from others. And watch out for patrols. Hopefully you are using your ranged attacks and not using melee weapons as a ranger. As a ranger you will never have the armor protection like a warrior would for close in hand-to-hand combat.

NOTE

take on only one quest at a time as the game will load ALL of the enemies for EACH quest and wnen you go out you will face them ALL.
take 1 quest and the number of enemies drops a lot.
