He is a random mob, so it doesn't matter where you start.

I'd like to know if it is actually "all' other types of damage. Does this include physical, holy, chaos, shadow etc. or is it just the other elements? (air, water and earth)

why are all the other wards under earth magic but this is under water? earth needs more elites! it is a very good spell but very hard to get without a good group

It says all OTHER types of damage, so it would be yes.

Descriptions have been known to be misleading, inaccurate, all the way to downright untrue.

With that in mind, are you saying this based off of experience, or the description?

I love this skill, though i kind of agree that its odd that it goes with water rather than earth. i'd also like to point out that holy damage does not get reduced from armor, period. you will still recieve full dmg from it while in this ward.

Interesting that no one has replied on this so far. Just a clarification no big thing but..
No this is wrong. All damage types work exacly the same way. Holy damage does not ignore armour. It suffers from reduction or just like anything else.

Not true.

Holy Damage, Dark damage, Chaos Damage all go through untouched, when cast by spell. Thus monks, necros, and mesmers have some options. This type of damage however on a staff or wand, or damage changed to this type (ie Judges Insight) is reduced by base armor.

Holy/Dark may also then be modified to enemy type (ie holy dmg more vs certain creatures, armors)

Other damage not reduced by armor includes attack skills (+x) and health steals.

Threads elsewhere get into it. Admitably its a bit odd of a system, but there it is.

Holy Damage is armor ignoring, ask any solo monk/SoJ user.

Light Damage from monk weapons, often confused with Holy Damage from monk spells, are not armor ignoring so that may be what lead to your impression.

Damage caused by Judges Insight are 20% AC Penetration and behaves more like fire damage to me which is why I do not like it (when compared to armor ignoring Holy Damage).

Back to the topic. The reason WAH is under Water is somewhat evident, it gives protection against fire damage first and foremost and only reduced protection against the rest of the damage types.

You are still not getting it...

Read this excellent article by son of rah: http://www.gwonline.net/page.php?p=157

It is important to realize that there are no fundamental differences between any of these damage types. Chaos, Holy and Dark damage all do not ignore armor, Ice damage does not cause slow/freeze and Slashing damage does not cause bleeding. All damage types, regardless of what they are called, work exactly the same way.

If the skill uses a damage type and ignores armor (or causes slow or any other additional benefit), then it is the skill that is actually causing the additional effects and not the damage type itself. If you can understand this simple fact, then you have already taken your first step to understand how skills work.

Chaos, Holy and Dark damage all do not ignore armor
Chaos, Holy and Dark damage all do not ignore armor
Chaos, Holy and Dark damage all do not ignore armor
Chaos, Holy and Dark damage all do not ignore armor

I would say this is by far one of the most useful articles written for this game.
It covers so much that everyone is unsure of.
I, myself used to think the same as you before i got a closer look at how things work.

I know that when it comes to spells and skills that do holy damage, like Banish, they will do the damage they say they will. If a holy spell says it will do 50 damage in the description, then it will do 50 damage regardless of the target...exception being undead targets. I've noticed this when I use my monk's smiting spells.

As for Ward against Harm, I don't think it would reduce holy damage from spells and skills because Ward against Harm affects the armor of the target, and holy damage will do the same amount of damage regardless of AR.

unfortunately thats u who's not getting it...

as it was said alrdy - if dark, chaos or holy damage was done by spell it ignores armor and wards. it we're talking about damage type on weapon - light, chaos or whatever - ward works against it.

just read carefully what u're citating there are diff sources of chaos, dark and holy damage... and of cos life-stealing cant be prevented by wards.
