Default Newer Style Grawl Farming Outside Sledge?

A few videos and some threads went around about Ranger's using mostly ranger skills to farm the Grawl outside Port Sledge.

Most of these the run's success depended alot on luck. The 1-2 builds that made videos and such about it all used AoE spells out of other classes to dmg fast enough.

So is this form of farming (the Grawl outside Sledge) profitable, and whats the best way to go around it now?

I've tryed a number of things. The main problem outside of obvious bad spawns with bosses and such, is keeping up my health under the health degen and that many grawl on me.

You assume that when you hit Ignite Arrows they'll all just flee for 2 seconds. WRONG.

When they flee, the ones behind them come up and attack, and thats assuming all of them even could flee - they bodyblock each other.

The strategies now have to be totally unrelient on AoE spells.

and if traps hit grawl crone, they transfer that negative condition back to u . gg

right now i think the best way, is just to use a R/W build to kill them.

unless u found a way to prevent the grawl from running from whirling defense+mark of pain.

Default one behind the others...

sure the next in line is going to come at you. lighting reflexes rapid fire will make em dance over and over and strategic retreats after laying traps does work and if they transfer all conditions to you why don't they transfer blind to me from my throw dirt? I spent 2 months farming grawl as a tank and 2weeks as a ranger just so my guild would have a farming build for new comer rangers. making them run works fine but it is slow and requires you to dance as well. your biggest worry is wild blow breaking one of your stances.
I'd also try doing run from drok to port seem to be a lil better for drawing groups of 3-4.

sigh i say grawl crone, seems that u never farm enough that area. try to trap grawl crone and see what happen.

i dun think grawl use wild blow, they use belly smash and dun end ur stance,

i never thought of soloing the grawl... but i do farm grawl with 5 henchies though..the drops sometimes are good.. ranging from sup vigor to a gold max fellblade..depends on the drop rate..plus its a great plus to farm for materials.. and way easy if your low level looking to level up.. so you get to level...farm materials..get drops..and might be lucky enough to get something good..cant beat that..so yes grawl great place to farm.. but dont anyone

Try Eoe and some Pure Spike damage, drop the aoe and concentrate fire on the crones, then the hammers dudes etc, etc, etc, as a r/w throw in Glads and whirling for defense and survivability and a condition remover, you should be fine can clear most out accept the azures and the imp mesmers all the way in the back, the monk boss when hes there and the Warrior boss tough, ive yet been able to take those guys out just not enough damage being dealt or sustainable damage the n energy mangaement become a problem, i usually just skip those 2 bosses!!! Takes about an hour to 1 1/2 hours to clear!!! ALot of dp'd but that why i have candy canes!!! lol A FRAMERS luck charm!!!

I tried out this grawl farm build today [despite this video being pre-aoe nerf] and it still works, just not if that meany alana spawns.]

http://media.putfile.com/Bodies_000181 ---- credit goes to that guy who made it, his name is there the whole time.

[7 smite, 10 bm, 14{10+3+1] exp, 10[9+1] wilderness] -- bring a sup'd BM mask to cast EoE with [to get a lvl 14 cast out of it] and then switch back to your exp map..

it's kind of spawn reliant, but if you do it properly and get your timings down it's decently easy and a lot of fun, very quick & good XP.

And yeah, they run around a lot, but a few of them won't.. the key is to get as many warriors as you can!! xD.... about half of them will run around all crazy like, but half will stay and eat your AoE and feed it back to their cowardly teammates through EoE...

[tip: cancel your dodge out after 5 seconds or so or you will lose some of your aggro ]

I can solo the grawl in sledge the only ones icant kill are the warrior boss (to much hp but if i bring interupt hes dead aswell but makes build unbalanced )and the monk boss. Dealing with the conditions is soooo easy its just give them something to play with like bleeding or poison u should easily spam some condtions on them after and finsih them, if you need help farming sledge pm me ingame il show you how

There's some video out there that I keep intending to refind. It's a ranger using EoE to kill around 60 grawl in that area. It was quite impressive. Not very good drops he said, but that's a lot of bodies. He had Throw Dirt, Whirling Defenses, EoE, and Oath Shot on his bar, but I can't remember what else or how he did the actual killing... time to go search.

**EDIT**
Wow I can't find it anywhere! I have found references to it and the build itself... but the actual thread where it was described is nowhere to be found. It had a video and all, which was a huge help. It's a difficult farming build.

I found a semi reference/explanation of a build very similar here.

However, the build I remember used no non ranger skills. I know I have the video on my computer somewhere... maybe if I'm nice I'll watch it tomorrow and post my observations.

If we want to find the original post, we might need some help from the almight Savio, the God of Searching.

please post it here after searching as well

it seems very interesting

and iirc, he used some sort of choke point that only allowed a few of the hammer ones to attack him at once, while the rest are bunched up uselessly behind

I use this build for farming the grawls:

R/X

Oath Shot {E}
Whirling Defence
Lightning Reflexes
Throw Dirt
Troll Unguent
Dodge
EoE
Optional Skill.

You don't need any other damage skill than Whirling Defence.
This can be done with every second profession:
Mesmer: Ether Feast (if things get a little tense)
Elementalist: Aftershock (for the knockdown)
Warrior: Healing sig (if things go bad)
Necromancer: Any health stealing skill.
Monk: Symbol of Wrath.

Nope, my stances have never been interrupted. All the melee grawls pile up on me, so the ones being hit by Whirling Defence can't run because their friends block.
