Ranger Barrage Build (Chris_nin00 #3)
Hello Ranger Goers...
May I present, The RANGER BARRAGE BUILD!
Profession: Ranger/Anything
Name: chris_nin00's Ranger Barrage Build
Type: PvP: Competition Arena and/or Team Arena
Category: Damage Dealer
Attributes:
Beast Mastery: 6+1
Expertise: 11+3
Marksmanship: 12+1+3
Skills Set:
Barrage *Elite*
Tiger's Fury
Favorable winds
Predatory Season/Winnowing
Lightning Reflexes
Whirling Defense
Throw Dirt
Res Sig
Summary: The title of this build explains all. The 'ranger barrage' is a build that uses Barrage to deal massive damage to a clumped up group.
Battle Preperations! Barrage build is best utilized in team arenas with a snarer and the rest are 'Barragers'; though it works fine in Competition arenas. The snarer's job is to slow the opposing team down, while the barragers spam Barrage.
Battle! first put up Favorable winds, then predatory season. Next choose a target; I suggest a softie, i.e. monk, mesmer, ele. Then start attacking the target. Use tiger's fury, then spam barrage after every other shot. If a warrior is in your face or a teamates, use Throw Dirt/Whirling defense. Lightning Reflexes is used to keep on the offense while protecting yourself.
Otherwise, this build is quite easy to learn.
Notes & Concerns: This is one of my favorite builds of all time! It deals damage to multiple targets and can protect itself and others. The only thing that is lacking is healing.
Pros
-Lots of Damage to clumped up foes.
-Spamable.
-Easy to use.
Cons
-Lack of Healing. I miss my troll Unguent in this build.
-Groups are usually all over the place. You need a snarer and coordination.
-Once barrage is disrupted you are out of artillery business for a while.
To counter that I put up predatory season; +5 damage everytime your attack hits a target. In a clumped group of three you get +15 health everytime you use barrage. Not that shabby. If one wants to be more on the offensive with no healing on your part, switch Predatory Season with Winnowing, +4 Damage ain't that bad. If you really want to be bad, use a +5/-1 Vampiric Bowstring. This build is easy to use and get into. Have fun Ranger Comrades!

I've tried Barrage + Tiger Fury and I don't really like it. It doesn't speed Barrage up all that much IMO.
I think Barrage's dmg fits the best with Conjure.

I'm not a huge fan of Conjure because you lose your bowstring spot for elemental dmg change...
Judge's Insight is a decent choice though.
This works in the CA because the people aren't organized team wise. Alot of people wont even be teamed with a monk..

Look these screens and you know what Barrage spam actually is (not pure barrage spam ):
First
Second
Third

I cannot find the last image of this battle, but time was something about 1:30 when we won (flawless).
From another battle
Notice that this build is useless, when i created it it tought "ahh we win HoH..." and so on, but if enemies are not close of each other this doesn't work. The theoretical damage is (if there is 6 enemies and everyone have MoP on him(+orders and spirits)) about 300 damage per barrage (to single one person by one mans barrage), remember there there is 5 other guys using barrage and pets. And Barbs does some damage too.

That's why I noted the problem in this build. It needs a snarer.

Nice build, Chris. Until now I was yet to find a competitive use for barrage
I found it works well in pve, aswell, aslong as you bring serpents quickness for the spirits.
Thanks Chris!

You should put in a Conjure Flame in there. (Ele skill) (If you're wielding a fire weapon)

Maybe Barrage with Serpants? Seeing as how Tigers wouldn't help much...

Barrage is so much better with either JI or Conjure imo

In response mainly to Warf's build, you could do the same Barrage-way concept build that relies much less on the targets being so close to each other. If you do 6 primary Rangers, and 2 N/Mo, you can do a ranger spike on every target, which does about the same (if not more) damage than a "normal" ranger spike, with the added bonus of being slightly AoE.
For example, you could have all 6 rangers run this build:
Barrage {E}
Savage Shot
"I Will Avenge You"
Charm Animal
Whirling Defense
Lightning Reflexes
Favorable Winds/Winnowing/Predatory Season/Natures Renewal/Edge of Extinction
Ressurection Signet
(they are obviously R/W for IWAY)
And then you can borrow a leaf from MATH's build on the N/Mo, and run the two elites Martyr and Order of the vampire, Heal Party on both, and then some less interesting things like Heal Other, Well of Blood, etc.
The point of the build is that you can spike targets continuously, you have decent defense/healing that wont last long, but lasts long enough.
As to the original build by Chris, i would replace Lightning Reflexes or Whirling Defense by Savage Shot. Or, you can drop a spirit such as Winnowing, but i feel that you definetly need an interupt. They work great in both Arenas and Tombs, for literally anything.
