Default griffon farming .. no good?

hi
i farm griffons outside augury rock, and used to get decent weapons (1 gold and 2 purple / run) but lately the loot is realy bad, last time i did 5 runs and no golds/purple at all. plus the place is stuffed with devourers.
anyone else having this problem or did i just have a bad day?

I did not notice drops being particularly worse than usual, but I did get the impression that the place was recently crawling with devourers, more than usual that is. Perhaps others noticed the same?

I make extensive studies of my farming practices to assure maximum output... so I can spend as little time as possible farming, allowing more time to helping guildies out and such. Here are my observations on your griffons:

Over the past 30 days, rockshot devourers have increased and decreased per patch, and now stand at about 185% as many as there were when I started, per farming run.

The drops are still just as good, assuming you don't get Drop Fatigue. Look into that. If you don't know what that is, switch to running as your source of revenue.

i'll give it some more tries tonight ..
killing everything is an option but it's kinda tricky to finish off 2 devourers while 8 griffons are humping your back

I've noticed an increase in devourers lately, but I haven't been farming very long, so I'm not sure about any change in drops.

OK, I'll be the noob and ask:

Drop fatigue?

Searching this site yields only this thread and one other, which didn't seem to have anything to do with what you're talking about.

Googling for "guild wars" "drop fatigue" got no matches.

I assume that it means going back to the well too often? If so, then that means your best drops should be on your first farming run in any given spot - I know that isn't the case. I've gotten golds/purples on second or later farming runs, after getting only mino horns and griff wings on the first run.

So, what are you talking about?

When they updated they also toned down drops and stuff for the most popular farming spots like the griffons and minotaurs.

So it's hardly suprising there are more devourers and less loot.

i farm this spot often, and here of late i haven't been getting the good drops like i use to when i first started farming this spot. i was getting purples and golds on a regular basis, but now it seems all i get are wings, horns and generic weapon drops.....gold and purple items are becoming more rare

just had 2 gold drops in one run now
guess it's all very random

devourers are still a drag though
by the time you've outrun them, the griffons took half my hp

Say the same thing I've said since I started, I haven't noticed a change. It just takes longer naturally due to recent tweaking of skills.

Drop Fatigue. Let's assume you live in a bad area. You go out one night, and you get mugged. You go out the next night, and get mugged again. You're pretty stupid, so you go out again, and get mugged. Soon you're pretty tired of getting mugged, but you still have to go out. So you stop taking things with you.

If you enter the same area more than a few times in a row from the same entrance, kill the same creatures, accomplish no quests, get no new waypoints, and don't do something the game can recognize as normal gameplay... then your drops decrease drastically. This won't just be for that area, but in the game in general. Gradually this repairs itself, and seems to reset after about half an hour, though it changes violently from patch to patch. 20 minutes-ish now? So if you material farm or something, once you notice the drop fatigue taking place (Not one bad run, but several in a row... eventually things drop 1/20 kills. And that's only one of ANYTHING. Like... ONE griffon wing for 20 kills.) go sell what you've farmed for awhile, or *gasp* beat a mission or something.

Or be really pathetic, like me, and have 2 farming characters, cycled.

Yes i still farm griffions and here is why. Each run i get a ton of white and blue items, money bags, keys, scrolls, dyes (2 blacks and tens of silvers so far), collectors items, and the ocassional gold or purple. Between selling most of that crap to the merchent, I get somewhere around 1.5k a run, BEFORE selling any mods, dyes, or rare materials from salvaging highly salvagable items. The average run takes about 10 minutes (a generous estimate, usually less). Thats 9k an hour on average, not bad if you ask me. Plus with all the xp I have unlocked every monk and war skill, and I still have 40+ skill points. And while most of the gold drops are crap as far as requirments go, I've still unlocked alot of max weapon mods. Plenty enough for me.

Sure i could do drok/desert runs, but i wouldnt get any xp or unlocks. I could farm tengu, or something else that drops runes, but there are only 6 runes that are really profitable (4 monk runes + sup absorp and vigor), and the runs have alot fewer item drops. Other farming spots I have some problems with consistantley being able to finish. With griffions, (barring those annoying rockshots) I always succed. If i get farming fatigue I just switch to my Ranger for some trap groups or, (heaven forbid) actually play the game(<[email protected]!!1)

And now for a skill suggestion:

RAID?!?! - Shout - All insects in the zone die instantly, very very painfully.

I farm griffons all the time and everytime. I can't farm anything else. I still maintain 100k+ on me and I have had over 5 sets of 15k armor and I have great weps. for my chars. I don't see what's wrong with em. I still do, and always will unless they.. nerf it completely. I noticed one night that I did about 5 runs and only got 1 purple, I came on the next day and got like a gold or more per run out of about 6 runs. I didn't wanna pwn the loot drops, lol. I guess it's just when GW wants you to have shit on one day, and when they don't on another day.

I'd say drops have been nerfed everywhere. Shortly after the update I bought about 30 shiverpeak keys, and kept entering and exiting until the chest spawning point closest to the entrance had a chest. I'd run down ther, grab the loot and just keep repeating until it was up. I'd say I got about 22/30 golds doing this, some were good but some sucked. I got a few good upgrades (+29 fortitude, 3:1 axe haft etc..). It worked for a while, and then the next day I bought 10 keys... i got... hmm... 1/10 golds. Drops are completely nerfed these days. The only gold drops I have ever had in gw apart from chests is once in the desert and once in FoW!

Um. Patience. And stop farming there over and over. Don't depend on one place. Be creative.

Actually, I've been noticing 2 rookshots popping out every 3/4 length of your radar (that circle thing that shows where you are in relation to the monsters on the map). Not to mention the ones that just randomly roam around. It does get annoying, but as long as I don't get near enough to set off traps, I just kill of everything aroudn me first, then lure them away from their precious traps. Easy kills, just a little time consumeing is all.
